Rush-listening co-worker is pooping a brick! |
|
I just got done overhearing a loud discussion in the hall between my co-worker who blasts Rush out of his office every afternoon, and some other neanderthal. He sounded pretty damned worried. Some highlights:
"Kerry scares me to death!"
"I've got kids!"
"He said he'd have to check everything with the UN first!" (Obviously, one of Rush's lies has driven itself into his brain.)
Whatever. Too bad for you, buddy. With my vote, I'm bringing you better government whether you can recognize it or not.
It's like the Matrix anymore. Which reality do YOU live in?

11. Kerry talked about unilateral action requiring a "global test" |
|
He meant universal acceptance by the US population and world leaders.
It was spun as something else, but most people didn't buy it.
OTOH, if you listen to Rush, you probably would.

I'm in IT, and while this is obviously anecdotal, I've found that political persuasion tends to split based upon specialties:
Database/Network Administrators - Conservative System Architects/Analysts - Progressive Application Developers - Libertarian Web Developers - Progressive Multimedia - Progressive Support - Progressive/Libertarian
The split makes sense - Admins are generally not tasked with creating new code, rather they are involved in keeping the data/networks safe, and consequently up and running. Most app developers are fiercely independent, dislike any political parties, and are typically very competitive. Architects have to see the whole picture, and as a consequence their mindset reflects progressive viewpoints (a Republican says - "Look at how good things are now", while a progressive Democrat will say "But because you're doing this now, it will affect this, and this, and this in the future."). Web and multimedia people tend to be artists or come in with an artistic background, though I've seen exceptions to this. Support has to deal with everyone else's crap, so they consequently tend to be the most jaded, politically and otherwise.

40. I'm a rare white male liberal computer professional |
|
It isn't about being intelligent, it's whether or not you can deal with life having so many gray areas.
Bush, Rush and the rest make everything black and white, whether it actually is or not.
There is also the desire for order that comes with being as logical as most programmers. I'm more creative and don't mind some chaos. Many in my profession prefer fascist order to any kind of disorder.

28. That reminds me!!! He also said |
|
"The Democrats are crying and whining and bringing on all of these UN inspectors to monitor the voting fraud in this election, and THEY ARE THE ONES WHO ARE DOING IT!!!"
He sounded very upset by this crazy action by the Democrats.
So, he can hold in his head these three beliefs at the same time:
1. Democrats want UN monitoring for this election 2. Democrats are committing all the voter fraud 3. Having UN monitoring would stop them from committing voter fraud
Yet, he doesn't seem to be able to figure out that Rush is feeding him a line of bull on this. Typical Freeptard.
