2. Good old fashioned mechanical levers
Next to paper, I feel the most comfortable with these old machines (which date back at least to the 1950s).

Unfortunately, the county is supposed to be buying Diebold machines next year. :-(

3. Optical scan here
Refused to vote early because that would have meant using ES&S machines. *ptui*

5. All of Ga is touch screen.
It does make things easier, but it's scary that the first time Ga went all touch was the first time in 100+ years we had a pub Gov and Chambliss beat Cleland. Made us all wonder????

6. Punch cards, in Ohio.
And you'd better BELIEVE I triple-checked for whether the holes lined up correctly with my choices and that I punched 'em all clean!

12. Here too.
If you ran it through a machine before leaving, that's optical scan.

11. Optical scan w/ballot box.
After the ballot is scanned, a judge deposits it in the ballot box. Yes, we DO have a paper trail in my counyt.

:)

14. optical scan
with the broken arrows. We just instituted them @6 years ago. It's just not the same as the big old mechanical lever booths. I loved those things, it just made me feel like I was doing my civic duty when I pulled the lever.

the optical scanners just don't have the same 'feel'.

15. Same here! They hand-count any ballots that don't scan
If people don't fill in the arrows correctly, or circle or check their candidates, it's easy to recount later and discern exactly what the voter meant.

I feel good about my county's system. Paper broken-arrows, optical scan, paper trail, easy hand-count.

13. Lever machines, and I love them
I just love the feeling of pushing down the little levers, and then pulling the big handle back and hearing the clicks...

I hope we never go to computer voting here!

I couldn't imagine New York using anything else. :D

17. In Oregon we all vote by mail
(or drop box but ballots come by mail)

It lets us all vote up to 10 days early. We're looking at about 85% turnout because of it and are going to go clear Kerry.

The ballots are easy to read and you just fill out the oval with a pencil or pen.

Moreover we have pretty nice (thick) voter pamphlets on all the candidates and issues. It's a system that I like a lot so far.
