They keep telling stories about Presidents who have lost on CNN |

Hopefully, this is a sign of something....
They said that George W. was the one to tell his father that he had lost and then added "Maybe this will set something up for tonight" (insinuating that it will be George Sr. who will be telling Dubya he has lost).
Then they told another story about how NO incumbent President has ever thought they were going to lose - even Herbert Hoover was surprised that he had lost..... and that all of these men have so much self confidence that it never enters into their minds that they could lose.

Not only was he confident of winning, he was even more confident in his economic plan (appropriately summarized as "do nothing") and was certain that FDR's economic policies ruined the chances of an economic recovery.
The historic parallels are beyond irony
