Anyone see any Exit Polling going on
I just voted and there was none but I'm in a small uncontested state. Small in population that is.

3. Yep.
Downtown Baltimore.

No sign whatsoever of repukes anywhere near the polling place, either.

Plenty of Dems handing out local Kerry-Edwards voting guides, a group of people across the street yelling, "Kerry-Edwards!"

2 lawyers inside, ready for challenges... both Dems.

5. Norm Orenstein on Franken's show said at CBS they have different screens

but they are sworn to keep the results secret. Franken tried the old trick "if you don't say anything when I propose this" - but the guy said "I just stepped out - didn't hear what you said"
The upshot: they DO get exit polls, just don't report them

6. I was exit polled in Wisconsin
Outside of Milwaukee in Waukesha County. Young man said his group gave results to many news organizations - I saw ABC, CNN, MSNBC logos on top of sheet among others.

Filled out a questionnaire - about 15 questions, 2 sides of sheet

who I voted for
my gender
age group
income level
if I voted for candidate or against the other
major reason for voting for choice: Iraq, economy, terrorism, and 2-3 others
if candidate can help most in war, economy, health care, and 2-3 others

I can't remember all of them, wish I could have received a copy! When I was done, he said I should watch my choices on the news tonight.

8. Exit polling will be worthless this year...
because of the high number of absentee and early voting.

9. My mom did something like it back in the 70's
It was when the League of Women Voters (my mom a life long member) were the foot soldiers for the network pool: the big 3 plus PBS and everyone depended on them.
Pollers are assigned to "bellweather" districts and record the vote tallies when the polls close.
They then called in the totals to the network and it helped them call a winner for each state.
