I VOTED FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! |
|
It felt so good. 19 years old, first vote. In a swing(-ish) state - Missouri! I decided not to vote straight Democratic, just because I'm not informed on a lot of the local races and felt irresponsible automatically voting for some people, so I just left some local races and the judgeships blank.
But it felt so good to punch a hole for John Kerry. I was so worried though - punch card - I held it down for a minute, pushing with all my might, and inspected it for five minutes before handing my ballot in.

Good for you! Doesn't it feel great to participate in our democracy?
I had to fill in a bubble and I think I spent 10 minutes making sure it was completely filled in, but without stray marks. It was like being in kindergarten again!

Myself (age 29) and my wife (a bit older). For both of us, this is the first presidential election we've bothered to vote in.

I noticed the lady who owns it, who I'd estimate is an Asian woman in her 40s, was wearing her "I Voted" sticker. I asked when she voted, and she said, "This morning. I voted for the first time ever in this country, and I voted for John Kerry!" I gave her a high five!:kick:

21. My first time voting too |
|
This was my first time voting in a presidential election as well, and I'll never forget it, because this is when I finally realized that I will never again be able to feel apathetic for a moment. Now it's hard for me to even remember and comprehend the time in my life when I could just not care.
I now know that my commitment does not end with defeating Bush, but will be a lifelong struggle, branded in my heart and my conscience forever. When I met Barack Obama a couple days ago, I flippantly told him that I would be directing his presidential campaign in a few years, but hell, maybe I will. It's definitely opened my mind to career possibilities I never before entertained.
I really hope that it's not always going to be such an emotional rollercoaster, though. I've already got hypertension and I just turned twenty-one.
