The guy just called headquarters yesterday to make the decision. Vietnam was a long time ago.

My whiteness is showing. It was an African American name and so.... He is a Des Moines youth leader and they were at a youth program there. In addition, a prominent black elderly woman was there who was the first Iowa African-American state legislature and many other things, but I don't know if she endorsed or not.
And there was John/James(?) Rassmen, the Vet who Kerry saved in Vietnam. There's another thread about him.
Amazing day. It's on C-Span. If you like Kerry at all, it's a must see.

but I think it's very cool in a "rock the vote" kind of way...
Tenacious D, who bills themselves as "the worlds greatest rock band" announced a backing for Kerry. Tenacious D is fronted by Jack Black. Even my daughter, who loathes my obsession with politics, asked me who Kerry was, 'cause she heard that Jack Black is voting for him.
I realize these pop icon endorsements seem to be of a lesser importance than say, the endorsement of former and present political figures, but among those kids just reaching the age of voter priveledge, it is definitely beneficial.

There is some merit, I suppose to Madonna... she has considerable pull in the music industry and I'm sure her fundraisers will serve the general well. But as far as image goes, I sure wish JB had thrown his coolness behind Clark. Yet I do not begrudge Kerry this well-deserved endorsement. Kerry needed to pull in younger voters, and if JB uses his MTV recognition right, Kerry may be the next hip candidate. The greatest band on earth rocks the vote. Don't ya love it!!!!!
