6. To put it in perspective
120 million voted in 1992. I think that's the previous record.

Mark Riley said on Morning Sedition today that if it gets that high we've won. I'm inclined to believe him.

12. Eleanor Clift on the BBC a couple of days ago said the same thing....
if it goes up to 120 million, Kerry wins.
Susan Estrich had similar nos. a few nights ago on FAUX. In 2000, there was less that a 50% turnout. She expects about 58% this time. She said that if we see nos. in the 115-118 range, Kerry wins and if it goes to 120 million, for sure it's his.

105,377,660 votes were cast in 2000 and it was pretty low turnout.

Excellent site...above the table at the top, you'll see a link to "US Elections" with a dozen or so links to more historical data.

The 2000 Election saw 105,586,274 ballots cast from 156,421,311 voters from an eligible population of 205,815,000. So, the percentage of the eligible population voting was 51.3%. Since 1980, we've added seven to ten million more eligible members of the population, and high rates of people registering. As you can see from the table, we've not broken 55.2% of the eligible population casting ballots since 1968. This year, personally, I think we're going to be somewhere around 61% casting a ballot. Adding 7 million to the total eligible population, at 61% participation, we'll have just about 130 million people actually voting, compared to 105 last election. I'm just gauging these numbers off of what I think. In other words: SWAG.

The Government has failed to provide any information about vote counts or eligibility since 2000 (wait...the Bush Government failing to provide the same census data that every other administration has in the past? that's unpossible!). The only halfway credible numbers I can find are from the Brookings Institute. They project 122 million voters at low to mid 50's percent participation (they get their number that high with a higher growth in eligible voters than I do).

Anyway, I'm betting that the additional 25 million people are going to split about 2 to 1 for Kerry. Landslide.

Oh, no need to welcome me to DU, long time lurker. :)
