Prominent Poll Shows Kerry Tied in Virginia Prominent Poll Shows Kerry Tied in Virginia CNSNews.com ^ | 11/02/2004 | CNSNews.com staff

(CNSNews.com) – One of the early troubling signs on Election Day for President Bush was the analysis by veteran political pollster John Zogby, which showed that the state of Virginia and its 13 electoral votes were up for grabs. The Democratic presidential candidate has won Virginia only once since 1952 – incumbent President Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Republican George W. Bush won the state four years ago by more than 220,000 votes over Democrat Al Gore as part of his overall razor-thin victory. But as of mid-afternoon Tuesday, Zogby had Bush and this year’s Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry tied in Virginia as well as Pennsylvania. Zogby’s projected results in the other 48 states and the District of Columbia would deliver each candidate with 252 electoral votes, leaving Virginia’s 13 and Pennsylvania’s 21 electoral votes to decide the contest. Actually, under the scenario drawn up by Zogby, Pennsylvania would provide the crucial difference, putting one of the candidates over the 270 electoral votes needed for victory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
