One of my Republican students sent me this multi-forwarded email rumor

Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

(Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?!

I BETTER NOT HEAR OF ANYONE BREAKING THIS ONE OR SEE DELETED This is a ribbon for soldiers fighting in Iraq. Pass it on to everyone and pray. Something good will happen to you tonight at 11:11 PM. J____, you sent me an internet rumor that is entirely false! The real Koran verse 9:11 reads: "But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and we make the communications clear for a people who know."

Please don't "bear false witness" thru email. Before you pass along wild rumors, check out the facts first. It took me 10 seconds on Google to find the real Koran verse 9:11. An honest person would send this correction of the false information he's given out to all the people he sent the bad information to.

5. This IS Bullshit: I am holding an English/Arabic Koran

which I was given when I taught in Saudi Arabia. While my translation is slightly different from that given in your rebuttal in the email, it is very similar.

Here is what 9:11 really says:
But (even so), if they repent, Establish regular prayers, and pay Zakat
They are your brethren in Faith: (Thus) do We explain the SIgns
In detail, for those who understand.

Here is the explanation of what is being discussed from the English summation: The chance of repentance and mercy to the worst enemies is again emphasized, in order that people with any understanding may n ot be misled into thinkng that war was an easy or light matter.
