Which prominent Democrats deserve the most thanks? |
|
Besides Michael Moore, who has his own thread, how about Howard Dean, who gave others the backbone to speak up?
How about Pres. Clinton, who did whatever he could to help?
and...please add your nominees!

4. I agree about Howard Dean |
|
He spoke up like a Democrat--not a faux repub. He made people realize, in grand FDR tradition, that it doesn't have to be this way. Liberal is a proud and glorious tradition, a tradition that has given us ALL of our social programs. Liberals don't just value property, the value people. Dean made us see that again. The party owes him a great debt.

They have been trying really hard. Carter, Clinton, Gore, Dukakis, Mondale, McGovern...all of them deserve a round of applause.
As well as Dean, Kucinich, Sharpton, Gephardt, Graham (especially), Braun, Clark...nah, not Lieberman so much. But thanks to his daughters for being beautiful!

32. Dennis Kucinich-- for showing that peace isn't a dirty word |
|
For giving us the courage to not only fight against the wars, but to actively work for PEACE.
He may not have done well in most states, but he had a HUGE impact on the states where he DID do well. As a matter of fact, most of the high-profile Kucitizens in MN continued to work for Kerry after the nomination, and continue to improve our party at the local, state AND national level.
Winning this year is just a beginning. There's STILL a lot of work that needs to be done. Just because we have a Dem for president doesn't mean things instantly get better.
STAND UP KEEP FIGHTING!!!

In truth, he wasn't "my guy" in the primaries, but when I heard him speak here in Houston a couple of months ago, he solidified for me what PARTICIPATORY democracy is. We can never again think that someone else will do this for us.
He said, "voting will get you a 'D'. If you want an 'A', you need to run for office. If you can't run for office, pledge to volunteer at least 3 hours a week with your local party or for a candidate. After November 2 I'm giving you one month off, then it's time to start working for 2006."
I guess you could say I took the pledge.

I have never, ever, ever seen such a united party.
Ever!
We had our primaries and the cadidates fought honorably, but never, ever with rancor.
When a candidate emerged, the support, the "rallying round", the unanimity was unprecedented.
We ususally form our firing squads in circles.
Not this time.
Forward.
As one.
To where we find ourselves today.
This is GREAT!
