Recording Reveals Kerry Operative Dissing Dean in Campaign Call -J.Tapper
Stealth Negativity?
Recording Reveals Kerry Operative Dissing Dean in Campaign Call
By Jake Tapper

Jan. 17 — After a wave of nastiness, the major Democratic presidential candidates in Iowa — locked in a dead heat — are now trying to project positivity and accuse their opponents of the opposite.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., today accused Rep. Richard Gephardt, D-Mo., and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean of continuing to wage negative campaigns.

"It's obvious that my campaign is moving because two of the major candidates have chosen in the last two days to engage in a smear effort on my farm policy here in America," Kerry said.

Caught on Tape

But two nights ago, Cornell College psychology professor Suzette Astley, a Dean volunteer in Lisbon, Iowa, received a phone call from a Kerry's Cedar Rapids headquarters — in which, she says, a Kerry volunteer had some less than kind things to say about Dean regarding his foreign policy experience, being from a largely white state, and so-called "environmental racism."

You did NOT! :-)

I like that headline, anyway. Not sure how I feel about the other stuff in the article.

Peace.

3. I'll be glad when this is over......
Then we have to put up with bu$h and his gang of thugs lying and smearing our candidate. Whoever our candidate is,he's going to have to fight back or lose the election.

4. Yeah, maybe we should vote for the guy we like least.
Because, oh boy, it ain't no kindness to throw him to those wolves.

May whatever god blessed the founding of this nation be with the man we put up against these destroyers of everything we love and honor.

Push Poll?

A third Iowan, Dick Alexander, told ABCNEWS he received a phone call about two weeks ago from an organization claiming to be a polling firm unaffiliated with any candidate, in which pro-Kerry and anti-Dean information was conveyed.

The Alexander call, should it have happened, would meet the definition of a "push poll" — a call purportedly from an objective polling firm that actually seeks to "push" voters away from candidates by spreading negative information about them.

The Kerry campaign insists it is not using any anti-Dean scripts.

8. I don't know who is doing it
But if Tapper is reporting it, I put pretty good faith in the claims. He's not one to print just every accusation.

9. I can't help thinking about Florida in 2000
Look how they swarmed in there and did their dirty work....it's all they live for....to cause trouble for dems. It sounds like something they would be doing....and I heard on tv that Guliani, tom delay and Frist are going to Iowa this week-end. Now my question is this: Why are they there on the same week-end the dems are doing their last campaigns before the caucus? It smells to high Heaven,IMHO.

11. ya know what
the other night, all the Dean supporters were calling ABC media whores for running a negative story on Dean. Now tonight, ABC the media whore runs a story on Kerry and they are credible? Don't get it.

BTW, I think both articles stink to high heavens, but that's JMHO.

12. There's a big difference between the articles,
the trooper one attempted to make a link that wasn't there in order to slime Dean. This is just a straight news story.

25. Could someone point me
to this "trooper" thing, please? I've missed a few things lately, I think, and now you've got me wondering. To be honest, while I'm not a fan of Dean's some of the crap being slung his way in the past couple of weeks is pretty ugly.

13. Not ABCNews, this is Tapper.
ABC may be carrying the story, but Tapper is the one reporting it. Big difference. I don't know who was behind the Dean's Trooper story, but that was pure crap and was acknowledged by most everyone to be pure crap.

so it doesn't apply to my posting of this article. Additionally, Tapper has pretty good cred because of his coverage of the 2000 Selection.

for nipping this in the bud, the person was asked to leave as soon as it was brought to the attention of the Kerry campaign.

And then there were none!
