How do I start a 527 organization?
Serious question. I am so angry right now that the majority of Americans either are blind to the lies that the radical conservatives are feeding them or are so apathetic that they don't even bother to vote.

Abortions increased during the Republican control of every branch of government.

Only 1 out of every 10 draft age kids voted. I will not take the blame when they get sent to Iraq or Iran or North Korea.

Racial inequity is as bad as it has been since the end of segregation.

The disparity between the wealthy and everyone else is as bad as it's been since before the Depression.

More than 40 million people without healthcare.

Medicare rates increasing 17% under the Republican administration.

Assault weapons legalized again despite a great opposition to the legalization of these weapons.

A world that despises us.

Obviously my vote doesn't count as long as we have a nation of under-educated rednecks that vote and a large population of blacks and youth that couldn't care less.

I want to create a 527 organization that exposes EVERY lie that these crooks tell and every contradiction to their "family values" and "patriotism" that they commit. It's criminal what they are getting away with.

Somebody point me in the right direction, please.

5. Purhaps things have to get much, much worse in America before....
...Americans are shaken from their belief that until it happens to me I'll not do anything that rocks the boat. But, this election may be what tips the scales for you, so I wish you all the best. Here is a web site where you can start:

<snip>

Starting Up an Advocacy Organization
Summary: Advice about the requirements when setting up an organization that is focused on advocacy.

On 01/19/01 someone asked about this subject in CharityLaw (see http://www.charitychannel.com). Adam H. Kerman of Chicago answered:

Q: Myself and two others are forming a national political action committee that will focus on animal welfare issues. I know that we must register with the Federal Election Commission,

A: Call the FEC, 800 424-9530, and ask for the book on separate segregated funds. It's quite thorough.

But why do you have to file with the FEC? Unless will be making campaign contributions to congressional candidates, they won't regulate your activities. If you'll only be lobbying, they won't be involved.

Q: And file regular income and expense reports,

A: Depending on what you'll be doing, you may need to seek recognition as a Section 501(c)(4) organization (Form 1024) or a Section 527 organization, with that new registration form whose number I forget. But that registration would occur only if you try to influence an election in a way that FEC doesn't regulate (soft money).

Each state has their own registration requirements:

8. A good start
Will be to take over the machinery of the Democratic Party in the South from the whipped dog losers who have been running it and who have been kowtowing to Republicans out of fear of losing what we already have.

The Democratic Party will rise again in the South when it rediscovers the populism that made it the majority party here for decades and quits waiting for some outside force to intervene and change the dynamics.

We have to start from scratch down here. Tear it down and remake it. We need Howard Dean at the DNC and a concentration on state and local races to build a new grassroots across the South.

9. Racism is the problem with this
Until the Civil Rights Act, the Democrats were the controlling party and they did tend to be quite racist. For example, Woodrow Wilson, segregated the federal government for the first time since Reconstruction.

After the Civil Rights Act, for whatever reason, the Republican party, led by Barry Goldwater, became much more conservative and many southern Democrats jumped ship and went to the Republican party. Jesse Helms comes to mind.

No Democratic Presidential candidate has received the majority of the white vote since 1964, which was when the Civil Rights Act was passed. The only time the Democratic party has won was when the black vote was very heavy or during elections where the overall turnout was very low (1992, for example).

What we need to do is to try to get blacks and youth to participate in the government. I don't know how to do this but they are the groups that are most going to suffer under Bush's economic and military agendas.

10. When LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964
He said that he had just signed over the South for a generation. He was right. But that was 40 years ago and the racial dynamics have changed in the South. There is still racism, just as there is elsewhere. But it no longer trumps other issues.
