"Guns, God and Gays" may have decided this election. |

Voters in 11 States Reject Gay-Marriage"It feels like a death," said Kelly Burke, 35, of the amendment's passage in Oregon. She is a stay-at-home mother who began receiving health care coverage for the first time after she wed electrician Dolores Doyle, her lesbian partner of 15 years, in Portland last March.
The amendments in Mississippi, Montana and Oregon refer only to marriage, specifying that it should be limited to unions of one man and one woman. The measures in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and Utah call for a ban on civil unions as well.
The Ohio measure, considered the broadest of the 11 because it barred any legal status that "intends to approximate marriage," gathered equal support from men and women, blacks and whites.
In five of the states, legislators placed the proposed amendments on the ballots, while in the six others — Arkansas, Michigan, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio and Oregon — the measures were advanced by conservative, church-backed citizens groups that collected signatures on petitions.http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041103/ap_on_el_st_lo/eln_gay_marriage_13Ron Reagan touched on this last night. He said when he considers moral values, he is speaking about human rights issues. I fear what the future holds if Americans are more concerned with what adults do with their sex life than with human life itself.

Late yesterday afternoon I heard a volunteer in HQ talk about her daughter being harrassed while holding a sign at a local JR high school.
Get this:
The 8th Grader who harrassed her said that Kerry would take away our guns and he likes "queers".
That obviously came from the parents...so yes, indeed, it was a repeat of the same Republican mantra Guns, God and Gays .
I'm so disgusted right now I can hardly think clearly enough for a post.

Gay rights is going to go backward no matter what we do. The gun issue is pretty much where it will stay. And many in the Democratic base have to quit trying to "expose" God and just learn to allow other's their belief and realize that Jesus was a liberal and the church in his time smashed him, also.
I also think that a huge PR plan should be pushed starting immediately to let folks know that Dems are the moral party, not Repukes.

i actually noticed this about Bush supporters early on. they almost never defend his actual policies on issues that matter such as jobs, health care, even the war on terrorism or iraq. they don't want to discuss the specifics of what he is actually doing.
they always talk in general terms about how he is a man of god, a good moral leader etc. but they don't look at the results. remember kerry spoke of religion in terms of action and results. but for them belief is enough as long as you oppose gay rights and abortion.
i knew this was common among bush's biggest supporters but it's a problem more widespread than i thought. many of these people even admit they have questions about iraq and the war on terrorism but the issue of "gays" and "morals" was what mattered to them the most.

8. It's odd that that they say these are "value" issues |
|
They seem more issues of intolerance, bigotry, and self-righteous arrogance. I'm only afraid the Democrats will continue to make the old mistake of thinking that the way to beat them is to be more like them. It's not a matter of values or not values but of different values.

12. Yes, you're right. In the exit polls, 22% claimed "moral values" as a big |
|
issue. Code words for "I'm a bigot and ignorant. Vote BUSH!"
I am very disappointed in the public. As cynical as I am, I still overestimated their collective intelligence.

so for me, I am not at all surprised that this is most likely what may.. *may*.. have won it for our little bushboy. It gets tiring after a while. Guess it will take many many more American soldiers to die in the quagmire for it to override the gun, gay, god voters...

25. 7 million new voters showed up at the polls yesterday. They're |
|
reporting that Bush won the popular vote by a larger margain than any president before him. I want to fight to the end, but I think many of us are in denial about the fact that Bush motivated loads of NEW voters. Sorry, I don't think even diebold is capable of pulling this off.
