Perhaps I am just too cynical.
Consider, Bush can run again in 2008. He was not elected president in 2000. Supposedly he was just elected yesterday for the first time, so he can run again for a second term in 2008.
Wait for it to be on the top of the list when they get around to investing Ted Olsen in SCOTUS.

he was elected by the ELECTORAL COLLEGE. Right after the SCOTUS stopped the recount when it started going Gore's way.
Expect jeb in 2008. A family dynasty that still goes through the motions of being elected wil satisfy the illusion of democracy.
even Saddam had elections, after all.

Bush was "elected" by the electoral college and Congress in 2000, in spite of the judicial shenanigans that forced the outcome. He might be dictator-for-life but not on account of 2000.
