Did you know? More Americans voted against George Bush...
...than any sitting president in history.

We did not fail with GOTV.

We did not fail by nominating Kerry.

Everywhere I went yesterday (in Dayton, OH), I met people who were fired up to vote against Bush; people who had never voted before, people who hadn't voted in years, people who voted for Bush or Nader in 2000. They were everywhere, lined up in the rain until past midnight to send Bush packing.

There were just more of Them than there were of Us. I suspect it was the fundies who stayed home in 2000 plus a bunch of people who really did believe that OBL would attack us if Kerry won. Our sole failure may have been in underestimating the numbers that would turn out for *, or simply just running out of time to mobilize more people.

I am still devastated, but I am hopeful because I'm beginning to feel the fight in me again, and I'm feeling incredibly encouraged by those 55.3 MILLION people who knew better.

Elections aren't about how many voted against the winner. The fact that we got a lower percentage of voters this time than the last election is evidence that the other side somehow convinced more people than we did. That's a disgrace. We failed in our message somehow, and we'd better figure it out.

2. You're right, elections aren't about that
but movements are.

We have to appoint better leaders and fix the message before we can ever hope to win an election. I hope we do it before 2006.

Last night was about winning and losing. From here on out it's about building on what we started, or perhaps tearing it down and rebuilding it. 55.3 Million people is not a bad place to start.

4. Need a good bumper sticker
that gets that message across. Or maybe just one that says "Not my President (again)".

I am fishing for a good one, if anyone has ideas. Friday my K/E sticker reluctantly comes down and gets replaced with one that makes it clear to anyone criving near me that I am in the fight.
