Poll question: Will Dean's appearing with President Carter help in Iowa? |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 02:41 PM by Padraig18
Will Gov. Dean appearing with President Carter on the eve of the Iowa caucus help Gov. Dean in tomorrow's caucuses?
:)
Edit: Changed 'does' to 'will' in the subject line.

1. A statement was issued by Carter making it plain that the meeting was |
|
not an endorsement. The same statement said that although he had previously met with Clark, he was not endorsing him either.

Can a Dean supporter even post a simple POLL without having their 'motive' come into question? :wtf:

12. I questioned your method, not your motive. |
|
Your method is flawed, and that's what I pointed out. Where in my post did I call your motive into question?

People can believe it has a positive, negative or neutral effect. Those are all 3 completely legitimate choices.

24. Ever occur to you that "No" might mean "No, it hurts him"? |
|
In light of there being a 3rd choice, 'no effect', that seems the only reasonable interpretation.

27. or maybe Occam's Razor is still sharp after all of these years... |

and it's merely an attempt to split the no vote? Or maybe someone started the cocktail hour early?

Padraig, my friend,
While I try to coin in on your threads as much as possible, I wanted to let you know that I can't vote on this poll.
I guess, more than anything, I am of the opinion that none of these shows of support have helped OR hurt our candidates. At the very least, they do get them some airtime. I cannot explain Kerry's sudden rise, but I don't recall a big endorsement for him in the last week or so. Likewise, while we expected Harkin to be a big jumper for Dean, it doesn't seem to have had any affect as of late.
Frankly, I'm up in the air with these endorsements. If anything, the IMAGE of Carter with his bible, walking with Dean will speak volumes over any endorsement any of the candidates get. Why? Cause some people will take the time to read about the political histories of the endorsing figures, while others will just remember something they saw on tv.
Respectfully, Robin

But to travel all that way, with an important primary pending, without an endorsement, is a major embarrassment. :bounce: Edit on "bounce"

18. Actually, I believe he works for the Dean campaign |
|
Though in what capacity I don't remember. I guess that implies endorsement. I have tremendous respect for President Carter and respect his decision to not endorse anybody, but he had some great things to say about Governor Dean anyway, and I have a feeling President Carter certainly would have no objections to Dean being the nominee.

11. I completely disagree |
|
Dean went there KNOWING he wasn't getting an endorsement (as per Carter's press release), but he went to spend time with one of our party's finest men, and one of our country's most important peace makers. To call it an embarrassment, frankly, is unsubstantiated.
On a political note, that picture will do quite a bit to help him out tomorrow, I think.

President Carter has become a beloved figure in the Democratic party. Even people who didn't like him as president think he has been a Great ex-president who has worked tirelessly for Peace and helping disadvantaged people all over the world. He is a Nobel Peace Prize Winner to boot. I think it is a positive.
