Update on the whole me-getting-smashed-with-a-brick thing
This kinda strikes me as a Lounge thread, but since I posted the original report here, and since so many of you offered such kind words, and since it feels like maybe people need to talk about something besides lost elections, blown recounts, electronic voting and the death of the Democratic Party, well, I thought I'd post here.

First things first: The damage. I have a huge scratch that covers most of my left cheek, a couple of long cuts above the scratch, two deeper scratches on my neck below the jawline, and my shoulder looks like a tequila sunrise. None of my teeth are loose, but the hinge area of my jaw really hurts.

I tried to eat something this afternoon, and the pain went from Defcon 4 to Defcon 1 when I tried to chew. I took this as a sign that I needed to get some x-rays. Went down to the hospital a few blocks from my place, got the x-rays, got poked and prodded, and the diagnoses is nothing is broken. I was kinda bummed; if my jaw was in fact broken, it would be the 20th time I've broken a bone in my life. Nice round number, and chicks dig scars. ;)

The docs gave me a prescription for super-mega-juggo ibupropein, and another perscription for Percocet. I took some a little while ago, and the pain has retreated dramatically. I might try to eat again in a little bit.

So, in response to everyone's incredibly kind words, I am fine. My mother, Raven, has oft commented on the thickness of my skull. Now, we have empirical proof of the allegation. I have the rock used to attack me - further examination revealed it to be a chunk of sidewalk curb stone a foot long and six inches wide, maybe 20 pounds in weight - sitting on my desk. Later, I an going to inscribe it in indelible marker:

'There Are Worse Things Than Losing Elections'

My attacker gave me that wee bit of perspective. Had his aim been better, I would quite literally be dead, or at least badly damaged. I got lucky, and I plan to use that luck to as good a purpose as I can.

My purpose: Before he is finished in his term, I will make sure George W. Bush is revealed as the scumbag ignorant bloodthirsty fool he is. I will see his name echo down the corridors of history as the exemplar as all that is wicked and foul and foolish in American government. I will see to it that his name becomes a warning, an omen, and a reminder.

Anyone who wishes to join me in this is welcome...and don't worry, you don't have to get clobbered with a chunk of sidewalk to become a member of this club.

Thanks again for your kind words and concerns.

Now let's go get those Bush bastards.

1. I ended up in the hospital too dawg.
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 07:51 PM by LoZoccolo
At 4am I finally decided to go to sleep but as I was laying there my heartbeat was up to like 120 bpm. I've had atrial fibrillation before and when I checked my pulse I couldn't feel the p-wave so I was like fuck it's back! Called an ambulance but the doctor in the ER said it was just fast; must've just been stress and aggravation.

I hope you don't mind me hijacking this little part of the thread but I'd be curious if anyone else suffered calamities last night.

12. fatigue and caffeine?
Have you ever heard about putting your face in ice water to convert the rhythm? That's one treatment. Fill a bowl with ice water, put your face in it and hold as long as you can. I can usually control with deep breathing or the Valsalva's maneuver, but have had to resort to ice water at times.

29. Hey thanks for the tip.
I've only had it once and it was after chain-smoking a LOT (I've since quit for over two years!), but this ice-water thing sounds like interesting first-aid. At the hospital when I had it they went through $1,600 worth of drugs before I cardioverted...mostly covered by insurance, but still, dang.

But yeah, there was a little fatigue involved I guess; I was in Wisconsin all day doing GOTV.

53. Dang, I had something happen to me too.
What's up with that? I had a blood clot several months ago, and I have to take this awful coumadin to keep my blood thin. I tore my rotator cuff playing golf, so until I can get to see a surgeon, the doctor prescribed VIOXX. So, they took that off the market and he practiced his love by giving me Bextra which is a no-no with coumadin. My INR is supposed to be between 2 and 3, and it was 22. My nose bled for 3 days. I had blood in my lungs and stomach and my right arm is completely covered with a black bruise. I am OK (INR down to 3.5)now but had to take vitamin K shots, and my veins inside my elbows look like I am a junkie. Maybe God is a Republican and hates Democrats.:eyes:

I'm still able to fight those Bush bastards.

Those are wise words. Those are true words.

But as I wasn't the one getting his skull smashed in, it's going to take a little longer for the veracity of those wise and true words to sink into my skull.

No offense, but you of all people must realize your little brick incident is insignificant to the country compared to the next 4 years. Advil fixed your incident.. if only the election was that easily fixed.

Soldiers will be getting hit in the face with a bullet or a bomb.

I'm sorry will... but this election was much more significant than your brick incident.

By about twenty thousand tons of bricks, at least.

On another note, I'm glad you werent seriously injured. I hope they put that bastard who did that in prison for attempted murder.

not too hard, sort of like the accolade, the broadsword blow to the shoulder of the newly knighted.

Alas, bricks are few and far between in this land of volcanic soil. The building in front of mine is faced with some, but I don't know if any are loose...

If I do find one, I'll take it to Opihi's this weekend and initiate him and oasis into the Order of the Brick as well.

that Shrub goes down in history as the lying, warmongering, idiot he is. It is SO important to me to dispel this - "he shares my values" crap I keep hearing from the Right. I want people to KNOW what they voted for and how he deceived them. I think if we can out him for what he is, 2008 will be cake. The fight with Shrub is not over! I will continue to pound the message about Shrub as if he were still up for election. I will do whatever I have to to make sure people eventually see him for the fraud that he is.

I'm not sure what happened to you (can't pull up the original post), but I basically got jumped by a bunch of frat-holes who were pissing on my house at 2 a.m.
I my left cheekbone was shattered, requiring reconstructive surgery along with numerous other contusions. I'm pretty sure that if I'd taken a few more shots to the head, I probably wouldn't be here typing today. The pain from the original attack and the recovery from surgery was profound. I needed some post-traumatic counselling and still have occassional bouts of anxiety that I attribute to the attack.

So yeah, I'm in the club and I do have the scars to prove it.

worked....

It feels like there is a media and cultural bias out there to
let Bush do as Bush does and no one really seems to make it
stick and hurt him politically, except to the choir well left
of center.

As a doc, I don't have the time to "campaign" but I gave more
time than I could afford to the Clark campaign. I started a draft
Clark site in one of the large "battleground" states that was
linked to by the Clark04.com homepage. I also started the Clark
Yahoo group in my state, we had 200 members. He lost, I got
disillusioned with "Partisan Politics", felt everything was a fix
where the people don't matter, and withdrew physically. Nonetheless,
I stayed on board in my new home, DU, and gave money to Kerry. I
patiently waited. I saw a zillion Kerry signs sprout up in my
rural Pro gun, Pro life, Pro war, Pro Bush town and I thought if
that was any indicator, Kerry was going to win by a landslide.
He didn't, and he lost bigtime in the popular vote. It's an
embarrassment. Now, I just regret that we have such a bunch of
losers running our party - even though I actually still like Kerry.

So where do we go? What do we do? How can we "expose" Bush when
he's already been exposed a 1,000 times over yet "wins big"?

The RW gained more control at all levels this election. It's grip
on information flow is tightening. People are comfy with being
spoon fed propaganda. It's frankly scary

Can you see that I feel hopeless?

What we need is real leadership to set things right. Yes, grassroots
matter, but those RW assholes got grassroots too. What they
have, politically speaking, is effective (albeit perverse) leadership.
We got nothing.

So what's the plan? Cuz I'd like to come along.

59. As a trauma nurse...........
for some 30 years, let me say: "brick to head---bad. Pain medicine for brick to head----very,very good"!

Glad you're OK Will. Next time, see a doc sooner. :-)

60. Chicks dig scars - really?
I've broken 16 bones and have the scars to prove it.

I'd prefer someone young and nubile.

I am neither. :)

I really hope that wasn't my Repuke father who did that to you :P

I'll join you! I didn't get clobbered, but I have a bad ear infection and sinus infection.

Just rest and get better. Take it easy and start fighting after you're healed.
