OK guys, I knew Lee Atwater |
|
...and a bigger SOB has never existed..however, he did get the job done. He was able to create the 'vast right wing conspiracy' of which Hilary spoke. He was a horrible, horrible human being...but we need a Lee Atwater, or at the least a Karl Rove. Any takers? I'd do it, but frankly, I am not mean enough. I adore Jim Carville, but he is too nice. Think of the meanest SOB you know and see if he voted for Kerry and feels outrage... and let's go from there.

And I think I would probably be pretty good at it. But I have no experience and no clear way to break into that kind of business.

just ask my kids teachers!!! :) We need someone who can cut through the bullshit and do what Atwater and Rove have done. No matter how despicable, they have accomplished what they wanted.

... who died a horrible brain-tumor death and recanted on his death bed? And who probably went straight to the 7th level of hell?
I don't want to be like him. But I agree, we have no fighters in this party. It's a problem, because Dems actually believe in fairness and equity, a handicap that most Reps don't share.
Oh well....

...and he was only 38 and had a family. But, he was also the one who speculated that 'that guy from Arkansas is the guy to beat' and started the machinations from there. Hilary was right. There was a vast right wing conspiracy.
And, as far as fairness goes, I didn't gloat when Clinton won, but I had to turn my phone off today to get some work done...nuff said.

3. Oh Please. The same people were essentially in charge in 00 02 & 04 |

And they did a fine job. It's just that every dem house senate and presidential candidate sucked. We should all contact our Dem elected officials and tell them that if they keep the same people running their campaigns, we'll all send them double the cash we usually send them.

...the campaigns were different. Lee Atwater, and by association, Karl Rove, strike a nerve. We need to learn how to do that.

7. It's the mechanism that is lacking. |
|
It's going to take time to build up liberal counterparts to hate radio and the cable "news" outlets. The Democrats have plenty of people who play dirty on local levels -- John Sasso is purebred scum when it comes down to it. But to be able to push a button and have 30 mindless drones repeat what you want them to say, 24/7 on national TV, to be able to create groups like the Swift Boat filth and have them treated seriously, that takes an infrastructure the Democrats do not have.
All this frantic talk I'm seeing here, and the nonsense post I just read by BartCop, are ignoring the huge disparity in resources the two sides have. Lee Atwater died 20 years ago. Yet the things he put in motion have only now been yielding fruit. It isn't a question of "playing nice" or "taking the high road" or all the rest of that stuff. It's a question of using the resources you have at your disposal, and right now, we lack what it takes to create a vast, left wing conspiracy. But we're getting closer -- this year was a big step forward.

to do that job
but I think I might be getting over it
what we need is a training ground for Machiavelli-meets-Goebbels progressive operators. Atwater trained a bunch of repuke liar-conmen-cheaters.
