The Colin Powell strategy for Dems?
Ok, I'm putting on my fire-breath armor, but here's my suggestion for one part of the solution: the Colin Powell strategy.

The Dems need to lure Colin Powell to jump ship from the republicans. I realize that Powell has pretty much destroyed his credibility and his legacy because of his speech to the UN. But inside dope is that he is mightily pissed that he was tricked into doing so, and he has been a massive source of the anti-neocon leaks coming out of the admin. He has been in virtual open revolt against his own admin.

Also he is calling it quits. Someone high up in our party should be seriously, seriously talking to this guy. I believe that it is not at all a stretch that he can be pursuaded to switch parties if his beloved army continues to get chewed up in the Iraq quagmire.

The point would not be to give him leadership in the party -- but an important role. There are precedents, like Conolly of Texas.

And think of all the dirt he would spill about incompetence and treason inside the bush mafia admin.

This is not the solution -- but I think it is a big part of our larger strategy.

1. I will never vote for that "man."
I wouldn't spit on him if he was on fire.

Traitor. Worthless fucking traitor to his country and his uniform. No integrity whatsoever. He carried water for the Evil Empire, and I will NEVER forgive him.

3. I wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire...
Powell is a spineless weasel; he has demonstrated that he will lie even when he believes what he is saying is wrong. He is as guilty as the rest of the Neo Cons for taking us to war.

What does Powell's wife say before he leaves for work in the morning?

"Honey, don't forget your spine..."

6. Naw...
.... I'm all for getting tougher, meaner, and more cynical - but I don't want to go that far.

Powell has sold his soul at the crossroads. There is no getting it back.

7. Not for leadership, but for dirt
I am not saying that we need Powell in a leadership position. What I am saying is that he is mighty mighty pissed off and is dishing like crazy to the press about how incompetent, insane and traitorous the neocons are. How could we possibly pass up the opportunity to turn this guy, if its possible and get the inside story?

Could you imagine, when the Iraq body count passes, say 5,000 and the army is being chewed up, Powell spilling his guts to Tweety or Bill Moyers or Ed Bradley on national TV about just how insane the deliberations inside the bush admin were???

Politics is the art of the possible, and on this one we had better hold our noses and try to get this guy on our side. Remember, he is mightily pissed off about being conned into lying -- he did not entirely choose to say all the bullshit in the UN.
