Pretty soon we'll hear how patients' appointments had to be canceled because Dr. Steinberg went on thhe campaign trail.

They will try to turn her into the new Hillary Clinton. But I think they will fail because they've effectively desensitized America to the "powerful woman" scare ;-)

7. And I will immediately cry "foul play" |

if I see that. You can count on it. That would be hypocrisy at its finest.
Plus, how many times have you called your doctor, only to be referred to another doctor while yours is out? And for the record, few of our doctors have husbands on the road to the White House. So I DON'T want to hear that argument thrown out.

I'm saying...I HOPE she made that decision on what SHE wants to do, not what the MEDIA wants her to do. They have been making such an issue of her not campaigning and personally, I think it sucks that they did that to her. She's a doctor and has patients to take care of. I hardly think she has time to be roaming around the country campaigning. OK?

I haven't seen a pic of Teresa Heinz Kerry is awhile, but all of a sudden, there she is.
It grieves me to no end to think that there may be people silly enough to judge a candidate on the merits of his wife.

Why is it that people always jump to the conclusion that just because they personally haven't been aware of something, that it's "new". Teresa has been campaigning all along. Sorry you didn't notice, but she's been there. Sorry, but this just gets so annoying that no matter what is going on somebody uses it as an opportunity to hit John Kerry.

And might want to re-read my post. I said, I haven't seen a pic of her... I didn't imply there hadn't been any pics.
Don't take offense when none was intended. And don't think Kerry is the only candidate being hit around here.

12. This had to happen. With every other wife on the campaign trail |
|
and highly visible Dr. Mrs. Dean's absence was becoming a huge liability. I seriously doubt her first choice is to campaign with Howard, but it is her husband's dream to be president, and she probably doesn't want to be blamed if he fails. Hey, I'm a wife so I should know!

13. She is Dr. Dean not Mrs. Dean |

She went to school for several years to earn that title and we should be using it when we refer to her.

24. Actually it's Dr. Steinberg |
|
I agree that is very very insulting to Dr. Steinberg that everyone from mainstream news outlets and papers to folks here at DU cannot call her by her proper title. She spent years in graduate and post-graduate training to earn that title. As a female physician, I find it intolerable that some archaic notion of the role of political wives is still in existence today, particularly among members of a supposedly liberal press and progressive communities.
I admire Dr. Steinberg greatly. She has children and patients to care for and that is more important to her and to her husband than fulfilling some patriarchal stereotype. If I didn't support Dean already, that would greatly sway me.
Just consider, some day if we ever have a woman running for president, will her husband be expected to drop everything, career obligations in particular, to be his wife's arm candy? I seriously doubt it. And why is trotting your wife and kids out considered the greatest indication of the depth of your "values"? It's quite ridiculous frankly.

25. Lest anybody doesn't get the distinction |
|
or somehow decides to make this an issue (as in this is a "new" situation... and use some other funky inneundo to smear either Dr. or Gov. Dean)
There is a two doctor couple in my family - and this is exactly how they are addressed... Dr. Y, but Mrs. X. For two reasons - one out of respect (she was Ms. Y when she earned the med degree), and two out of practicality (it was too confusing with two dr X's during residency and later working out of the same hospital.)
I have already once read a question about the WHY of the title arrangement, and frankly the implications of the question was insulting. Just wanted to add this comment here - preemptively, if you will.
*senstive, you say? well yes, on how we treat candidate's spouses, I am*

27. sadly, we have some DUers who claim that they |

would of course have the same expectations of husbands. Like you, I seriously doubt it, particularly if the husbands are primary caregivers to the kids at the same time as managing a medical practice.

Very well said.
The coverage haas been archaic, patronizing and very insulting. I've been aghast at the media coverage, including Prima Donna Dowd's tasteless and sexist diatribe against Dr. Steinberg the other day.
(Just a word of warning, which you're probably well aware of quite on your own: DU is not known for an absence of sexism.)

I actually wondered if he and Dr. Dean were discussing this. From everything I've read, they seem to be very close and mutually-supportive of each other's goals.
Maybe I guessed correctly. :)

would be my guess. She will probably show up on the eve of each caucus as it come due. And then of course the convention and then THE WHITE HOUSE.
