What do you think of "America Coming Together,"
especially if you have first-hand knowledge.

I donated to ACT and made phone-calls for them one night.

How effective was ACT?

1. I helped them a little in Missouri
they worked really hard there. The guy in charge had given up three months of pay as a lawyer to help kerry win. and they were organized.

Does that help?

2. I worked
for ACT alot, and in my local ACT Office, I thought the head guy was kind of a moron but the rest of the staff was great. I think we had some effect getting out the vote (espically college students).

5. I think it was very effective.
In MO, we identified "unlikely voters," voters who were registered but had not voted recently or regularly. Then we basically bugged the Kerry supporters right up until election day and checked to make sure they voted. I was told that in our township, over 1,100 of 1,500 unlikely voters had confirmed they had voted.

As a tactic it was very effective. As a strategy, however, I think GOTV ... isn't one.

Don't get me wrong. I am very proud of working GOTV and I really like and admire the people I got to meet. It has to be done because the other side does it. However, I would like to see us do some serious soul searching in the Dem party over the next year or two.

6. I worked for them in OH yesterday
and they were as organized as any group doing GOTV that I've seen.

I can only speak for the group I met, they were just volunteers like me but they were totally on the ball. Their precinct lists in particular were very good; I've worked off some bad ones but not this time.

8. We won most swing states with their help.
Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oregon.. they all stayed in our column with the help of ACT.
