PLEASE STOP trashing Americans! bush ONLY WON 31%!!!
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 04:11 AM by LynnTheDem
There were only 60% of eligible Americans who bothered to vote. (AFGHANISTAN had a higher turn-out than we did.)

And of those 60%, bush ONLY WON 1% OVER HALF.

That's only some 31%.

That's bush's rightwingnut religious zealot base with some ignorant redneck and some just-ignorant-but-mean-well everyday garden variety Americans. The rightwingnuttery has ALWAYS had a 30-35% hardcore base. And this election, bush got them out to vote.

51% of AMERICA did not vote for bush; 51% of the NUMBER WHO VOTED voted for bush.

And of the total number of VOTERS, 49% DID NOT VOTE FOR BUSH.

We DO outnumber them; we always have. But we didn't get out the voters like they did. We didn't get out our message either, because the rightwingnuttery has made us run away from our message for years;

WE ARE THE PARTY OF FREEDOM AND LIBERTY and LYING, CHEATING, STEALING, KILLING ARE NOT "MORALS".

1. I don't see how we possibly do any better

I have never seen our party so unified and so ready to take over the federal government.

We put out our A-game and we lost.

We got 55 millions votes, and we still lost.

This is just fucking depressing.

4. Bull.
Kerry, like most Dems, ran fast & hard AWAY FROM that "dread" label "LIBERAL". And he ran even harder & faster from the REALLY dread "Massachusetts Liberal".

WHEN did Kerry or any other Dee point out loudly;

"MASSACHUSETTS has THE LOWEST DIVORCE RATE in the entire USA." ?

They didn't.

They RAN from the "label".

WHEN did any Dee point out loudly that GREED and KILLING PEOPLE and PETTY SPITE etc ARE NOT MORAL VALUES?

They didn't.

"Dems are big government, big spending". EVERY rightwingnut says this. It's SO OFTEN said that it's taken as fact. IT'S NOT FACT; IT'S DEAD WRONG.

But the Dems don't bother to point that out; we ASSUME people with a brain already know this. And ASSUMPTIONS are the mother of all FUs.

We did not get our message out, we've been busy for years trying to RUN AWAY from our message, because we allowed the rightwingnuttery to label our message THEIR way.

We really gotta stop letting them do that, imo.

6. You got it.. we had a milktoast approach to the wringnutz lies.
Instead of turning his ship AT the enemy like he did in Nam, he (or they) chose instead to play defense.
They should have been on the attack every single day of the campaign..not refuting Rove and Cheney.

5. I'm not your mother trying to "make you feel better".
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 04:21 AM by LynnTheDem
I AM trying to make the Dem Party better.

If we DON'T get our OWN message out, if we DON'T STOP being "rightwingnut Lite", then everyone else is NEVER going to care.

YOU are free to wallow in your misery all you like. :)

13. Exactly. If anything goes wrong, I'll hold non-voters responsible, too.

3. so by implication
the 40% who didnt vote must be happy with the status quo. Therefore only 29% are against Bush.

Sounds like a pretty decent case for compulsory voting.

14. Depressingly, we have just gone through the same thing
with the same dilemmas facing the non conservative side of politics over here. Howard not only won but won as convincingly as the figures are showing for Bush, ie increased House and Senate seats as well as an increase in over all vote.

The Labor party in Australia has lost the last 3 elections (4 total) by trying to be as you say "right lite". Even though Howard has as many and many of the same faults as your Bush has. It is just so frustrating for those of us on the left - or even in the centre.

Good luck for the next 4 years, we have 3 years before our next election. Hopefully the world will be a little more sane then. Or at least Bush and Howards faults will be obvious even to the right wing nutters.

10. "compulsory voting"?..no thanks
I'm more in favor of making testing compulsory.
If you can't display a working knowledge of the issues or even who represents you, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

11. Going back to the old school Democrat ways?
I believe back in the day in the South they used that sort of thing to discourage the black vote? Do you think that its going to work for us now?

12. LOL..It'll never happen but it is an illustration
of my frustration of just how we got into this mess in the first place. Studies showed long before the election that ignorant voters were Bushs' best chance to get elected.

The election confirmed it.
