It only takes one University

to stop this:

What are you waiting for, Abbie? He isn't coming, your Abbie is out there, he's waiting.

Michael Harris

Yes Feds, I use my real name and I will from now on.

1. Have you been to a University these days?
A bunch of spoiled rich shits that have never really suffered a day in their life. Their biggest tragedy? some cute guy didn't call back, or they got all fucked up and puked on themselves. I see these little shits everyday yapping about irrelevant bullshit on their cell phones whilst they get into their beamers. They're hopeless, and only a great suffering will wake them up. I seriously admire the kids that broke for Kerry, but they're in the minority on college campuses. Most just get a degree rather than an education, then go into the world to make bank and vote republican.

2. I live 200 yards
from a major university and about 9 miles from another. I speak with students every day.

4. Hey, at least you're not stereotyping there.
:eyes:

During grad school I taught some very progressive, very involved individuals. Some were from wealthy backgrounds...some not. Just like the 60s. Some are spoiled brats who will indeed "go into the world to make bank and vote Republican." Just like the 60s.

Perhaps the bitterness we all feel is polluting your simplistic "analysis."

6. I stand with you we all
remember the button-down ROTC types, we remember the wealthy types who just needed direction, and we remember the ones who stood on the steps with bullhorns. The point here is, like America the Universities are a melting pot of people and ideas, people who will lead and those that will follow. The movement exists in that melting pot now as it did then.

8. I agree with you.
I recently saw a documentary on today's youth, who seem to operate with a herd mentality. This film piece noted that the younger generation were expected to participate and used to being scheduled in to stuff (e.g., soccer, music, day camp, etc.) for all their lives, with the emphasis being on the team effort. They cited studies in which less critical thinking and individualistic behavior were observed among that age group. We raised them not to have to worry or fret or want for anything. There's something to be said for having to figure out how you are going to earn enough money to buy your first bicycle or beater. Made my kid do it. They appreciate what they have.

12. then we change the schedule
pride is a basic emotion, explain to them how it must have felt to have been the first in line on the march from Selma to Washington.

3. Imported cars...that must be Berkeley, not Kent State
I remember in Ohio in the 1970s. Imported cars were rare and actually shunned. It could be that we had 100,000 steel jobs and 50,000 GM and Ford jobs in NE Ohio then.

Anyway, I am with you, Michael!

5. you know those hippies and
their VW's. I've seen responses to my posts mentioning that America's youth is not willing to fight back. I can't hold with that, I've seen young minds and what they do. They lack a leader, someone to tell them the history of the fight, from Ireland in 1916 to Ohio in 1970 the youth changed the world, they brought the focus of the lens, and the written word to causes worthy of a fight. From Selma to Washington, they lead the march they only need direction. DU can be that direction if we do it.

I just have to figure how to get involved there. I have done a bit with their environmental club for Earth Day last year.

9. flyers, is there
a coffee house nearby? Political Science instructors? A lot of students work in retail around town, strike up a conversation, see which way they lean then light a fire within them. Remember this word, groundswell.

11. Also
music can inspire, think of the sound of Jefferson Airplane's "Volunteers" playing in the background while you deliever a speech to one or thousands:

Look what’s happening out in the streets
Got a revolution got to revolution
Hey I’m dancing down the streets
Got a revolution got to revolution
Ain’t it amazing all the people I meet
Got a revolution got to revolution
One generation got old
One generation got soul
This generation got no destination to hold
Pick up the cry
Hey now it’s time for you and me
Got a revolution got to revolution
Come on now we’re marching to the sea
Got a revolution got to revolution
Who will take it from you
We will and who are we
We are volunteers of america
