I hope to see a more positive primary season for 2008 |
|
First I would like to say that our first step should be to focus on 2006 and the local elections inbetween before we start going crazy about who should be our man or woman candidate for 2008.
But since we are talking about 2008 I would like to suggest that our party needs to be more united in the primaries to be able to have a stronger candidate against the next Republican candidate.
The Democratic candidates in 2003 were too worried about their own ass and too eager to win the nomination that they turned on each other and made the work for the Republicans easier.
We need the Democratic candidates to focus on winning the big prize and debate their different ideas without the negative campaigning against each other. They should reserve that energy to bashing the Republicans and not each other.
I hope not to hear the "you are Bush-lite" and you are this and that. I hope to hear more of the "my ideas and policies are better than candidate A, B and C because..."
Save the negative stuff for the real enemy!!! Doesn't that make sense?

1. The "primaries" themselves must be reformed |

My state, NJ, delivers. So does Cal and many other blue states. Why are we on the sidelines and having these decisions made by Iowa and NH, two borderline blue states? Because the DNC wants it that way - Iowa isn't even a primary for chrissakes and easily manipulated by the party machinery. NH is not a typical Dem state either, but by then it is usually too late.
