1. Possible - but how many people in VA voted for him because they thought
he was John Warner? I would want to know that first. Never underestimate the ignorance of some voters.

3. I'll tell what was really confusing...
when Mark ran against John for the senate seat....

Nah, I think they knew who they were voting for... they were voting for being against idiot gilmore's agenda!

5. Nope. John Edwards
The consensus seems to be that we lost on values. Edwards connects on these issues - work ethic, family, faith - and I hope we learned that.

7. Out of office ex Senator - not the best platform to run for prez.
VPs and Guvs have a better shot historically. Kerry did well as a sitting senator against an incumbent war prez imo -came within one state of winning. That's why I think the pubs ought to tone down their crowing a little. Not that they will, though to his credit, Bill Kristol did give Kerry credit for pulling 48% of the pop vote.

12. No way. I liked him, but
I don't plan on voting for an out-of-office one-term Senator who has no executive experience.

13. I'd rather have Elizabeth Edwards.
John would make a great stay-at-home dad, doncha think?

6. We won't win in 2008 IMO.
We are entering a dark age for Democrats right now. The party needs a paradigm shift.

8. Two Words: Barry Goldwater. Remember him? Lost in landslide to
LBJ in 1964. Four years later? Hello! There is Richard Nixon! sitting in the White House.

More: Nixon wins with 49 states in 1972.
Four Years later? Jimmy "Who?" Carter is sitting in the White House.
Carried Texas AND New York to get there, too.

It can be done.

11. Goldwater caused a paradigm shift within their party, Did Kerry?
Or did he reinforce more of the same?

14. No, but HOWARD did
and the base of the party listened to the establishment and said "fine, we'll go with you this time and play your 'electability' game".

But the establishment lost. Again. Like 2000. Like 2002.

I think Dean is more of the Goldwater of the Democratic Party.

16. Dean isn't a great comparison
Goldwater, while getting blown out, was able to win states that historically were NEVER supposed to be won by Republicans: Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama. Dean would get blown out, but he wouldnt cause an electoral shift.
