Pollwatchers: If you saw anything remotely fishy at your precinct ... |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 11:06 AM by gauguin57
... on Election Day, FILE A COMPLAINT with your Elections Board. Do NOT let Republicans rule your precinct with an iron hand; do not allow voters to be disenfranchised, or other voters to abuse the system.
I am filing an extensive complaint against one of the two precincts where I pollwatched. The whole way the polling place was set up was inappropriate, as was the behavior of the Republican volunteer pollwatcher.
I may still file a complaint aginst the other precinct (which was very well run, and very accommodating in giving the pollwatchers access to information) ... the constable assigned to the precinct is MARRIED to the REPUBLICAN POLLWATCHER. I mean, COME ON!
Another pollwatcher I know is filing a complaint regarding an Amish couple in which the husband was talking to his wife through the voting booth curtain, and finally just went in there with her. Totally against the rules (she wasn't listed as an "assisted voter.")
Every little bit will help getting the election process out of the dark ages ("Well, this is the way we've always done it! You mean there's a rule against that?" OY!)
FILE THOSE COMPLAINTS! GET THE SYSTEM CLEANED UP!

1. Our precinct was run as cleanly as i've ever seen one run. |
|
We had 5 election judges--- 3 Rs and 2 Ds. I challenged one voter, and the vote was 5-0 to uphold my challenge. The Republicans challenged 3 people, and again by 5-0 votes, all 3 were allowed to cast provisional ballots. Provisional ballots were (or will be today) counted in my county for ALL offices, provided that the voter goes to the County Clerk with proof of ID, citizenship or residency, as the case may be.
Things went smoothly.

2. Well, you're lucky. I live in Republican hell, and they truly think |
|
they run the place. Now, the elections judges were VERY supportive of my noting problems with the way the precincts were run, but OH MY GOD -- some of the stuff I saw just made me want to pull my HAIR out!

4. I line in 'the most Republican county in Illinois' |
|
I know what it's like, but the judges of election still seem to be able to keep things fair, as did our County Clerk, a Republican. She actually said that she literally wanted every vote to count, hence her directive on provisional ballots.

3. i live in a rural area, no big cities around my place |
|
i voted by mail, but i did stop by the polling place. We had 10 voting stations, most of which were never in use. Considering I have been reading of inner cities polling places that had 2 or 3 stations and lines out the door, would you consider that remotely fishy?
