my steps to winning elections - don't include the south, forget them |
|
1. dont try to include the south, forget them. They are beyond hope or repair at this point. develop a northland strategy. buy up rural tv and radio stations in Ohio , Indiana, Colorado . W Virginia and Virginia. Develop powerful groups in Ohio and Colorado to ensure they stay blue(colorado just went all dem except for pres). Force democratic congressmen in Ohio , Indiana, Virginia and Colorado to abandon any kind of gun control issues. Setup statewide outdoorsman groups in Montana, N/South Dakota and Wyoming run by democrats that support ZERO gun control and smaller government, but who issues point to democratic blue collar values.
If the south wants to play cultural wars and split the nation, I say "bring it on".
Some will laugh at this plan and say it's suicide, but I say it's our biggeest hope, and at least it's a plan.
the only quandry is the congress. We still have to play the south for congressional races and the senate. We can do that with very conservative dems.
But as for presidential elections, I say develop the northland strategy using massive rural radio stations(soros we need you) with mainstream democratic hosts, and start to lock up the nothern half of the country, pulling them into the mainstream of Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York and Oregon.

1. I've been thinking something similar. |
|
We don't need the WHOLE south. Ohio, W. VA, Colorado and even FL are not out of our reach. Florida has a rep leadership from top to bottom and part of that has to do with census redistricting. But this is a state that just voted 72% to 28% to raise the minimum wage $1 above the federal. In short, FL is a state that you have to drive north in to get to the south and vice versa.
Anyway, we need to become competitive in only a handful of states to take the WH on a regular basis.
We need to moderate just enough that we're competitive in certain states. CO and OH ought to be our targets. I have no idea why OH is so conservative but it shouldn't be.

2. psssst...it's not just the south |
|
Have you looked at a post-election electoral map, specifically one that highlights the counties?
It's urban v. rural, not north v. south. Misunderstanding that will harm our cause and lead us down the wrong path.
We have to find a way to reach out to RURAL voters. I don't have any great ideas (yet), but it's obvious that's what we have to do.

3. You might have a point, |
|
if all or even most of the culture warriors were located in the South.
But they are not, so all you've got here is yet another masturbatory let's-blame-the-rednecks scapegoating thread like the hundred or so other ones that have popped up like mushrooms after a rainstorm. The real divide here is not north/south--it's urban/rural. That's what we've got to get a handle on if we want to remain a national party.

my post adressed rural states and areas, and I offered *solutions* on how to attract rural voters. you offered name calling and nothing else.
