I let my repub co-workers have it!
Yesterday when I came in, before Kerry conceded and the EC votes stood at 254-252, the first thing out of my entire department's mouth (in unison no less) was "Bush woooon! Bush wooon! You Loooost!" like a bunch of junior high kids.

After informing them that the EC votes have not all been awarded yet because all the votes had not been counted at that point, they actually said "It doesn't matter! Bush still won!" As if Democracy was just getting in the way of 'their guy' 'winning'.

Well, I'm normally a very laid-back, reasonable person. I said to them:

All you who voted for Bush, I don't want to hear any complaining about the following things in the next four years...

Social security and Medicare (looking at the guy who is about to turn 65)
Veteran's benefits (to the veterans in the group)
Having your son shipped to Iraq (to the woman who son just got out of the Marines but still could be called up)

I would have gone on, but I was just TOO PISSED! and flabergasted at how 'intelligent professionals' were behaving like school children at a football game!

Needless to say, they did not have a response, and there has been NO political talk between us since then!

1. Good for you. I'm not looking forward to seeing my in-laws...
... having found out last night that almost ALL of my wife's immediate family drank deeply of the Kool-Aid.

I swear, anytime I hear ANY of them say ANYTHING complaining about rising gas prices, rising property taxes, Social Security benefit reductions, etc. -- I'm going to look them in the eye and say, "When YOU voted for Bush, THIS is what you were voting for. Shut the fuck up and deal with it."

2. Tell them to have fun spending half their pay checks on elderly parents'
drug bills when they're in the prime of their careers.

4. Good for you. And I intend to do the same. I'm not normally
one to say "I told you so", but I think it's going to actually feel really good when people I know who voted for Bush compain about anything. You broke it, you fix it - will be my standard answer to all of these morons.

5. Good for you!
And every single time he fucks up in the next four years, say loudly and proudly, "I didn't vote for him." And remind them that 55 million other people didn't vote for him either--the largest amount of votes ever cast against a president. That's not a mandate, it's fucking embarassing if you ask me.

6. My normally mild-mannered and ridiculously reserved
husband told me that his freeper "friend" and colleague knew enough to leave him alone yesterday. Said he thought he might have punched the guy had he started with him.

He also told me that he was glad we were not planning to visit my family (my mom is an idiot shrub supporter) because he would probably lose it. This from a guy who thinks I wear the tinfoil hat in the family so it's evidence to me that even "normal" Dems are ready to fight it out.

Good on you for not letting them intimidate you. Juveniles.

8. I know people who are literally geniuses, but
devolve to the level of beer sotted football fans as soon as the subject is politics. Something about partisan politics reduces people to a common denominator, and it isn't a pretty sight.

head up high and walked up to the biggest freeper there. I said, "Congratulations." He said thank you. After that, I said, "I'm a lady and if my man had won, I wouldn't rub it in your face. I don't expect you to rub it in mine."

He was speechless.

I'm sure some of you guys think that's souless, but I told him and another person that no matter who wins (this was on 11/2), I still have to work w/ you, so let's remember that.

10. No response necessary anymore. No reason to debate them.
Just tell them he's not your President and never will be. No explanation required.

12. Living in freeper country, that is what my thoughts are.
My republican co-workers have yet to say anything to me. When they do, I will just mention now that the election is over, and with the republicans controlling the executive for another 4 years, and the legislature for the next 2 years any mistakes or tragedyies will be squarely on their shoulders. Democrats still have a voice, but not any real power. I will also mention that I will have no regrets and ask if they will.

It sucks when you're the lone Dem/liberal in the office. Republicans can be very childish.

14. My Republican co-workers haven't said anything to me yet.
I think they sense that if they start gloating I will tear their heads off. If they do say anything, my response will be something to the effect that I am at peace because I know that no matter what happens I will never have to be ashamed of, or apologize for, the way I voted. My conscience is clear and I will never have an American soldier's blood on my hands.

suggestion:
for those of you who don't like to put "permanent" stickers on your vehicle and don't want to tape it to a back window --

at any store which carries computer supplies -- they have magnetic sheets (8.5 x 11) -- take the sticker and paste it to a sheet, cut it out and slap it on your car -- works great -- my partner has a phobia about putting stickers on her truck and we did this so she could proudly display her Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker
