We don't need to compromise
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 04:48 PM by Cyrix
Right now I see a huge amount of suggestions to the effect of no longer supporting abortion or GLBT rights.

Let me tell you something - this is the WRONG COURSE OF ACTION.

Although I am male I would NEVER support a candidate who did not support this RIGHT. I have personal experience with this. The summer after I graduated high school a good friend of mine who had just graduated as well had sex for the first time (yes, with someone else) and got pregnant. She came from a right wing household that literally taught her nothing about sex, and you can be assured the ZERO sex ed in school was a big help too. She was not even entirely familiar with her anatomy it was that bad. Basically it was due to a combination of naivety and not being educated.

She was about to go 500 miles away to college. She had next to no money. Suffice to say if her right wing family had discovered it her life would have been greatly disrupted. (yes, contrary to the right wing bull shit 100% of families are not all sunshine and smiles) Further, at 18 she knew she was in no position to have a child and she did not want to do so. The person she had sex with was already out of state and had no intention of helping her.

She was tested and found out she was around 2-4 weeks after it happened. She talked to me about what happened and being extremely worried about her I volunteered to give her funds (which ended up being a couple hundred dollars) so that she could get a SAFE abortion at a clinic. She was torn between what to do, however, (again coming from a right wing house), and put it off for a little while. She ended up having a miscarriage in the 2nd month which her doctor believed was probably due to extreme stress and literally being physically sick for an extended period of time.

Anyway - I am very good friends with this person even today, and I would NEVER vote for ANYONE who would take away her rights or anyone elses. I will not tell someone whether or not to reproduce, and I will not force anyone to get a coat hangar abortion. (which is the republican position - we should start calling it that from now on) If we take the democratic party this way - essentially pulling rights from whatever group these freaks desire - then we will literally have killed the party.

Likewise, I will not support a party that wants to take away rights from GLBT people.

I find it amusing that the ones in the party now who want to take away abortion rights generally seem to be male, and the ones who want to take away GLBT rights aren't gay.

To those people I say this - you may not care about others rights, and if that is the case I suggest you keep in mind that after they come for them YOU'LL be next on the list. You can be assured of that. Who's on the list? ANYONE who isn't white, male, christian extremist, heterosexual, rich, and fascist.

Now - let me get to the main point here. Not only is it WRONG to compromise with these fascists it is NOT even necessary.

The america of right now today is going to look NOTHING like the america we are going to have in 4 years. NOTHING. These freaks are going to screw things up so royally bush voters from this year will be coming to the party in droves begging for a democratic presidency. Until now we at least had one branch of government - the courts - slightly sane. After a few bush appointments to the SCOTUS and lower federal courts and they start ruling all hell will break loose.

Not only that - the 50% of americans that didn't care to vote obviously haven't been hit hard enough yet. Within the next 4 years they will be. Guranteed. With inevitable expanded war and total chaos for domestic policy *everyone* will feel it in some way.

We had extremely high voter turn out this election compared to the last many elections. We had far more voter registrations. Far more first time voters. This WILL continue because the cause of that - the bush regime - will also continue.

The only thing we need to do is get a paper record of ALL votes. This should be the partys **primary objective** NOW. NOT trying to figure out which groups rights the party should no longer respect. Then we need only wait and let the regime implode. We may even make a comeback in 2006 depending on how fast they try to move an agenda.

Every state legislature that is still in democratic hands needs to pass legislation mandating state wide paper trails NOW. Otherwise they'll be next in line to go red.

There are constructive things to be done. Compromising with these people is now tantamount to surrender. If you want to do so and think it's safe because your compromising with someone ELSES rights then quite frankly you're a fool. You don't compromise with fascist theocrats.
