The rest of us will go to DFA and build a new party from the ground up. Then you can lose 15 more House and Senate seats in the next election with your conscience intact over the fact that you didn't even bother fighting. When there's nothing left, DFA will be there to fill the void.

"Does the DLC nominate liberals or moderates?"

So, would a LIBERAL say that we should should ban PBA's? Isn't that what you're saying now, Sangh0? Or that we should allow the Constitution to be amended to ban gay marriage?

78. Jesus...are you still whining?
- You DLCers get your fucking way and yet you still whine. And can your hatred of liberals be more obvious?

- Your ilk is part of the reason many otherwise loyal Dems are thinking of forming a third party...or at the very least purging the GOP-lite traitors from the party.

- You just don't seem to get it. We've watched the party move to the right for over a decade now and we've seen the results: THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OWNS EVERYTHING.

- We're not talking about moving the party in a radical direction...just back to its roots as the party of the people. Why would you object to such a thing?

you flamed Mike C's posts when you disagreed. (and they got deleted)

If you're going to vouch for someone else, it helps if you have some credibility with the person you're vouching to. Since I don't know you from a hole in the wall, I really don't see why I should believe BGL merely because "someone on the Internet" says I should.

If you can't understand that the DLC is poison for the party, then just agree to disagree with him.

I can understand why you would want to limit the discussion to the DLC. Then, you would have an argument.

Unfortunately for your argument here, the OP refers to a lot more than the DLC, a point you seem to want to forget.

which is, i believe, what the original content of the original post was about.

I have no idea where you got the idea that the OP was about the DLC only and not the DNC. The OP clearly refers to the Dem party. In which universe does the dem party mean the DLC?

From the OP:

the loser Democratic Party

Yep, a clear eference to the DLC

And to other organizations and websites, some of which I am not allowed to mention here for some stupid reason, where the fight is being carried on right now.

There are many of us who fought the good fight and gave countless hours and money and even our souls to the Kerry effort even after we were treated like dog-poop by certain elements within the party and yes, even here on DU.

We have to rethink our strategy and reinvent the party. NOT by imitating the Repukes, but by outsmarting them and outarguing them.

Dean was right, in case you haven't noticed.

18. The "Enlightened" Ones???
And who would determine that?

I had a favorable impression of many who were pushing the DFA around here. That was before things got bad. Now it's not only everyone for themselves, but now some are going to judge who is a good Democrat from a bad one?

Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 05:33 PM by IMRadioactive
I'm taking a "partisan vacation" for a while...and I'm not up taking tests and being graded here.

There are some of us who are watching here in total disbelief/amusement at to how things have unraveled. You always learn the true nature of people when times are tough and truthfully, as a lifelong Democrat who spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours on this election, It's gonna take a lot for me to get this involved again.

83. That's Why I'm Sitting This One Out
I'll be back in two or four years and pick up what pieces are left. Right now there should be people reaching out, not separating.

Again, I had some good feelings toward the DFA, but some of the sanctimonious posts I've seen here over the past few days have turned me off big time.

Clinton was DLC in the 1980s.

No one is going anywhere. A few reactionary people like yourself may break off and flounder around for a while, but the democratic party will re-focus, appoint Dean as its head, and re-examine its message.

29. Being progressive is fine
but many here that want to go even farther to the left mock the war on terror and want to cut defense spending. Regardless of whether you think you're right, in this age of the perception of terror (which is real, imo) you have no chance of getting anyone of your liking elected. The Democrats MUST match the Republicans on defense if they want to start winning in this era.

30. I'm sure the Republicans would love that, too
We need to be united with a strong candidate and have a clear and concise message in 2008, and reach out to the swing states we lost this year by defusing and mitigating the Republican's divisive "god, gays, and guns" points that eviscerated us this year. We will have to change and adapt to win in 2008. But dividing and infighting isn't going to win. Not to say we don't need some healthy constructive criticism, but "screw you guys, I'm going home" isn't a winning attitude.

59. Sorry, but after our loss and evaluating the results
it's pretty clear to me, the DLC was fairly much correct. They aren't up to speed on how to frame the debate and they certainly are not acting strategically, but a centrist perception must be presented or the Democratic Party loses.

That doesn't mean complete abandonment of the issues. It means retreating on teh issues for now so that we can redefined them to be centrist. Attacking an overwhelming forces with outnumbnered is teh way of the fool.

A new way must be forged in order to win. If not, we are sunk.

PLEASE! Tell me how your new party is going to work! Tell me how it will win seats in the house or senate. Tell me how it's going to win the presidency!

Go ahead. I'll wait for you.

(That said; I'm no fan of the so-called leaders of the Democratic party either. I just think that we stand a better chance of changing the party from the inside that we stand in saying "Fuck it, we'll do this by ourselves". That tactic won't work and you KNOW it, so stop kidding yourself.)
