Is the draft coming? We don't know -- but right now the troops in Iraq are bearing the brunt of a war that has stretched the U.S. military dangerously thin. And the current assault on Fallujah will only add to the casualties.

From the dangers of fighting without the right safety gear, to the problematic role of private contractors in combat zones, to a seriously underfunded VA, shortsighted policy decisions have forced soldiers to face a number of unnecessary problems. And now that Stop Loss policies are forcing soldiers to stay long after their contracts have expired, it's no wonder that a movement of resistance to the Iraq war is growing within the military. In the November/December 2004 issue of Mother Jones, David Goodman reports on this growing trend, including interviews with some of the soldiers who are refusing to fight.
