12 Students Arrested Upstate NY In Protest Against Bush Win
RED HOOK, N.Y. -- About 250 Bard College students Wednesday protested the presidential election results, claiming George Bush was not the legitimate winner. Police said they arrested 12.

The students left the campus about 1:30 p.m., marched to the center of the Hudson Valley village of Red Hook and staged a 45-minute sit-in at the intersection of Routes 9 and 199, blocking traffic.

About 40 village, county and state police officers were on hand and directed traffic in the mostly peaceful protest.

Troopers said 12 students were charged with disorderly conduct after becoming confrontational with the officers. Three were also charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and two of them with obstruction.

"George Bush is not our president, and we reject him as our president," protester Gabe Rey-Goodlatt said. "He's a non-elected president who stole the election again in 2004."

"If we look at Ohio, there was a great deal of provisional ballots that didn't even get counted," said protester Gus Feldman. Ohio's 20 electoral votes put President Bush over the top in the close race with Democrat John Kerry.
