I can tell you first hand that the media is the outlet most responsible for what happens to our country.
They portray our candidates as to intellectual while playing up the lower your expectations game. They are the ones most responsible for how people get their information. I once heard a Repub state on TV that "Intelligence is Highly Overrated."
Hence the fact that the media chooses to dumb-down the public, it serves their purpose. Keep us ill informed "Drink the Kool-aid", "Swallow the Red Pill, Blue Pill Deadly."
They are the ones who have the responsibility to make or break someone's character or assassinate it. They were very effective in this back in 2000 and again in 2004.
I refuse to watch their fucking news after what they did to Al Gore, but I tuned in long enough this campaign cycle to see if they would "Gore" Kerry, and lo and behold they even did more of a disservice than they did to Gore. I devote my political junkydom to c-span, the Daily Show, and the internet. I tend to be very informed on most of the issues.
This time they chose to devote to the Smear Boat Liars, THK's "shove it" remark, as well as her remark about Lady MacBethBush not having a job, Kerry doesn't have a plan, Kerry flip flops. They could have given us information about Kerry exposing and shutting down a terrorist bank BCCI, or the CIA drugs for guns operation Kerry exposed during Iran Contra investigations. But that was not their goal or to their vested interest.
With all of the medias input into how a candidate is portrayed we will always be at their mercy.
I could only stomach a very small portion of their spin on election night surfing back and forth. One thing that I found very interesting was that one channel was describing how the moral voters turned out in full force. I then switched to another channel they were saying EXACTLY THE SAME THING WORD FOR FUCKING WORD. I switched to another channel the same thing on that channel. At which point I knew they had gotten their talking point memo from Rove or Card.
After that I refused to watch anymore of their coverage!

That's where most people will spend their time in front of the Tube than listening to the radio.
I agree about the radio and c-span aired some of the lesser knowns a couple weeks ago.
I had the opportunity to find some more liberal voices out there.
