Americans showed themselves to be cowards.
They believed - contrary to all evidence that Bush will keep them safe. They said that the erosion of freedom is acceptable - as long as Bush keeps them safe. They said that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are expendable - as long as Bush keeps them safe.

How far we have fallen since Ben Franklin said that "those who would sacrifice essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." The people of the United States have proven they deserve neither. They are craven cowards.

Home of the brave? Not by a long shot.

1. The people of New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc., showed bravery.
And the majority of the people of rural America cowered in their homes, watching FAUX News, fearing terrorism, and voted for *. They've placed an even larger bullseye on the people in our great cities while safe in their little worlds. Selfish cowards.

3. Exactly!
I work in Washington, DC. Every day we face the prospect of another terrorist attack. We know very well that Bush is a fool and a liar. Yet because the bible thumpers of Tennessee and Oklahoma believe that God speaks though Dubya, the scandalous lack of preparedness will continue and our Homeland Security dollars will continue to be spent protecting herds of sheep in Wyoming and cattle in Montana. I cannot fully express my disgust with these hypocrites.

4. City Vs. Rural
Wanna see a real map of where this country is divided, look at the county breakdowns from the election. Almost every major city voted for Kerry...and in large numbers while the opposite happened in the rural areas. The middleground was suburbia, and this was where the election was lost.

City people are more intellectual, are more likely to be part of a union and/or a minority. Rural is very monolithic and fundamentalist...kept in a sublime ignorance that makes it so ideal for religious and other zealots to dominate. This isn't just our country. In China, their government purposely brought in troops from the rural area to put down riots in the cities since they know the distrust these people have for the cities...which the government there, just like the right wing here, fuels through flag waiving and blurring politics and religion.

Until Democrats find ways to reach out to the rural areas this divide will get even more profound.

5. I thought months ago the Democrat needed to go to all those red states.
People think we're afraid of them and afraid to go on their turf. I still believe that a candidate who REALLY wants to be the president of all the states needs to go to them.

7. At Least To Neutralize Them
My point is this party has to win in suburbia...that's where this election was lost. This is where the "Security Moms" live and where those who best understand Democratic issues are.

Yes, I think there has to be a serious re-evaluation of how the Democratic party operates in rural area or "Red States", but this is something I've confronted first-hand for nearly 25 years. But this isn't becoming NASCAR dads but, again defining the issues in terms these people can understand.

I'll be happy just to see any cohesion here...I just see more division.
