michael moore.
moore is not a democrat - at least i have never heard that he registered as such - but he did more to "energize the base" than any dem, or any other source, as far as i know. farenheit 9/11 was the catalyst that put the democrats back in the race. people turned out in droves to see the movie, and many left with new convictions.
from the media, even those supposed to be left leaning - bill moyer calls him weird, paul begala calls him a nutcase, nevermind what the right says!
for some "unfathomable" reason, moore resonates with america. well, i can fathom it. farenheit 9/11 showed us some truth. michael moore is a regular guy who loves his country and cares about the people who inhabit it. he is sick in his soul about the direction the "established government" is taking us. we can relate to that. we can relate to lila lipscomb. we can relate to our poor soldiers (kids) in iraq who are doing their best to cope with a conflict they never expected, and have no hope of understanding. we can relate to how outrageous it is to see military recruiter targeting poor, minority neighborhoods and talking about "rap icons" with the bewildered, and often without hope, young men. we can relate to the poor grandmothers in iraq wailing at the loss of life. we can relate to flint, michigan.
we cringe at wolfowitz' spittle covered hair. we cringe at bush calling the wealthy his base. we cringe at the look in bush's eyes when he heard about the second plane. we cringe (possibly cower, and cover our ears) when ashcroft sings his soaring eagle song. we cringe when we see the iraqi children at the playground.
there are other scenes in the movie that make us cry, or outrage us, or make us feel helpless, or any other myriad of things any person thought or felt during the movie.
thanks mike, for showing us how we feel. i would hope that the dem party might take a look at your film that hit the box office top when it was released, and steadily held the attention of america, and maybe get the idea that we really like truth, and we really like to know what is going on, and that we can not only "handle" the truth, we can act on it.
i am sorry that john kerry never acknowledged or thanked michael moore for all his efforts. i'm sorry that the dem party as a whole never acknowledged or thanked michael moore for all his efforts.
maybe while they are "soul searching the heart of the party" they will finally understand that we are really just a bunch of people that are trying to make democracy work.
