2. Some for a start...
“The oil revenues of Iraq could bring between $50 and $100 billion over the course of the next two or three years…We’re dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction, and relatively soon.”
-- Assistant Secretary of Defense and the mastermind responsible for Operation Iraqi Freedom—Paul Wolfowitz, in Congressional Testimony, 3/27/03

“The war could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months.”
-- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Feb 2003

“We will, in fact, be greeted as liberators.…I think it will go relatively quickly… weeks rather than months.”
-- Vice President Cheney, 3/16/03

4. "cakewalk"
Public Sold War on Claim It Would Be a "Cakewalk"

We know he's got about a third of what he had in 1991. But it's a house of cards. He rules by fear because he knows there is no underlying support. Support for Saddam, including within his military organization, will collapse at the first whiff of gunpowder.

- Richard Perle on PBS's WideAngle, July 11, 2002
Transcript: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/wideangle/shows/saddam/transcript2.html

I believe demolishing Hussein's military power and liberating Iraq would be a cakewalk. Let me give simple, responsible reasons: (1) It was a cakewalk last time; (2) they've become much weaker; (3) we've become much stronger; and (4) now we're playing for keeps.

- Ken Adelman in Washington Post essay, Wednesday, February 13, 2002:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A1996-2002Feb12?language=printer (Ken Adelman is Former Director of Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, and Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations)

Senior Bush administration officials have concluded that the United States will quickly win a war against Iraq, based on superior American technology and a sharp deterioration of Saddam Hussein's armed forces since the 1991 Persian Gulf conflict.

5. Notice how they said we MUST INVADE Iraq because of IMMINENT THREAT...
and at the same time they talked about how WEAK Iraq is.

Just one of them little ironies (total stinking pile of bullshit lies) that the incredibly dumb rightwingnuttery never noticed.

6. Cheney's "cakewalk"
Perhaps Cheney's biggest lie—which flew in the face of all assessments from the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and State Department Middle East experts—was that the military conquest of Iraq would be a "cakewalk." Cheney told Russert, "Now, I think things have gotten so bad inside Iraq, from the standpoint of the Iraqi people, my belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators."

Russert challenged Cheney's rosy forecast: "If your analysis is not correct, and we're not treated as liberators, but conquerors, and the Iraqis begin to resist, particularly in Baghdad, do you think the American people are prepared for a long, costly, and bloody battle with significant American casualties?"

To which Cheney responded: "Well, I don't think it's likely to unfold that way, Tim, because I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators.

8. couple more...
Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN March 23:

"The course of this war is clear. The outcome is clear. The regime of Saddam Hussein is gone. It's over. It will not be there in a relatively reasonably predictable period of time."

"And the people in Iraq need to know that: that it will not be long before they will be liberated."

Christopher Hitchens in a debate Jan. 28, 2003:

"This will be no war -- there will be a fairly brief and ruthless military intervention.

"The president will give an order. will be rapid, accurate and dazzling ... It will be greeted by the majority of the Iraqi people as an emancipation. And I say, bring it on."

7. This is gonna sound weird, but
I used a lot of those quotes in a whole crapload of articles I wrote. Do google searches under the following strings, exactly as they are below. Copy and paste them:

"william rivers pitt" iraq

"william rivers pitt" powell

"william rivers pitt" rumsfeld

That should hopefully get you in the neighborhood. Sorry about just not posting them, but I'm about to hit the sack. If it doesn't work, shoot me a PM and I will dig them up for you tomorrow.

9. A Plug for my Smoking Guns Mushroom Clouds
mini documentary. I made a 15 minute movie based on the lead up to the Iraqi war.

Most of my friends think it is disturbing how I achieved my effects.

It has a lot of quotes by BOOOSHit, The PNAC cast (Cheney, Jeb BOOOSHit, Rumsfield, Wolfowitz, Neroponte, Perle, Amritage), Powell, CondiSlezza, Rove, McClennen.

I showed it at The Black Dog Tavern a couple weeks ago. I received a lot of good vibes from the people who attended "The This Is What Democracy Looks Like" event.
There were poets, musicians, and my movie.

The link below has dozens of quotes with links and dates. I hope this helps!
