The people in Red States are not idiots |
|
We have ignored them. I see the condemnations of these people as morons, vipers, fundies. They are more traditional than us city folk, but they are humans with hearts and souls. We have to take them seriously before we can get them on our side.
These people have been used by a party that pretends to have their values. They will be hurt bad. Remember, the Midwest and South were once the vanguard of the Populist Movement that three times nominated William Jennings Bryan (practically a socialist on economic issues, conservative on social ones). They can still be won over. Red State Americans are neither stupid or evil. But they have different values and we need to reach out to them and respect them or we can watch those states get redder and redder.

Bill Clinton won Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and West Virginia in 1992.
We can win there again.

2. Bill Clinton could connect with them. He was from their world |
|
and he understood how to reach them. And a lot of people in Red States trusted him. Not the pyschos, but he did very well among the regular folk.
