GOP Alleging fraud in Fairfax, VA
The Republicans carried Virginia.  The Republicans won the congressional race covering Fairfax, VA by 20 points (59.9% - 39.9%).  The 2 congressional amendments passed with 70% margins and the bond referendum on the ballot passed overwhelmingly.  There was nothing even close, although Kerry did beat Bush in Fairfax City - first time in 40 years that Fairfax City has voted for a Democrat for President.

Yet the GOP is alleging fraud.

There is a difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.  The Republicans believe that the ends justify the means and do whatever it takes to get elected because once elected they can get their programs passed.  Then they do whatever it takes to get their programs passed (see also: DeLay, Tom and his ethics violations).

Until we play by their rules we're going to keep losing.

1. Not to nitpick,, but this article
was about Fairfax COUNTY, which is a vastly larger entity than tiny historic Fairfax (City of). Kerry won in Fairfax County by about 53%--I believe there are actually three congressional districts in the county--the eighth, the tenth (the one I was unsuccessfully working on) and the eleventh.
We had been seeing reports for some time that the county registrar had been overwhelmed with the number of new registrations and requests for absentee ballots, and that other government employees were being urged to volunteer to swap over and help out.

I can't address specific allegations of fraud, but fucking hell--you won the rest of the damn country, sit down and shut up.

One thing I did think was interesting--the Democratic sample ballot included all the issues on the ballot: Presidential candidates (all three--or was it four??), Congressional candidates, bond issues and constitutional amendment (something kinda incomprehensible about redistricting resulting from census). There were two differences between the Democratic sample ballot and the Repubican--the Democratic had Democrats' boxes checked, and the Repubican ballot

left off the bond questions entirely.

Didn't want people to vote for them--support for parks and facilities for the mentally ill!!--so just left the questions off completely. Don't read 'em and think for yourselves, folks, just do as we say!
