2. DEAD CENTER.
If you are talking about civilized, technological societies on planet earth, the ideology here is DEAD CENTER.

The fact is that the United States is one of the most extreme right-wing countries on Eath, especially for the last 24 years.

6. It's far-left friendly, that's true
I mean, I got chewed out but good for suggesting that Castro falling and hurting himself was a Good Thing.

That said, I see many relatively conservative Dems posting here and not getting trashed most of the time. I don't know that they're a sizable number but, well, I'm more center-left than anything and save for that Castro flareup I'm usually not flamed here.

FWIW.

5. DU is off the policial spectrum
We're too cool to play on that field. We make our own rules here. We are fight club. :)

7. DU is not really anywhere
It is what people make it. We do not reflect Skinner's, EarlG's or elad's politics. We just represent our own passions.

9. Oh wait, I've got that wrong.
Maybe they're saying other people are. But it's confusing.

14. LOL. I think our own poll is being freeped.
Oh, well...

FWIW, my impression is that DUers are mostly center-left.

10. A bit of everything
I definitely see my share of loonies, but I see everything else too.

11. We span the spectrum.
I myself am uncompromising on some issues (gay rights, a woman's right to choose), but those are hardly monolithic opinion blocs on this board. On the other hand, I own guns, enjoy hunting, and my wife, kids, and I eat what I kill. This qualifies me as a really evil man in the eyes of some DUers. BUT THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS PLACE!! As an elementary school teacher, I can hear, "You're absolutely right, sir"" on a daily basis. But when someone whom I respect rells me that I'm an asshole, it may sting for a bit, but it also makes me think.

12. US or Global?
In this country, I'm a loony left - which makes me a centrist in the rest of the world.

13. Loony? I don't think so.
If your spectrum only runs from democrat to republican, maybe this is as left as it gets. But on a wider continuum, there are quite a few more steps before you fall off the left side.
