I have a good friend in Georgia... at least I think she used to be my friend. We've had discussion about politics, but she's from the bible belt and refused to vote for Kerry - did vote for Bush, and sent me this e-mail today:
"Well, Robina...when all is said and done, I guess my prayers were answered. Didn't you pray for Kerry? LOL. God hears us, girlfriend. He hears us and He answers our prayers. I know you really believed in your candidate, so I won't rub salt in your wounds. Actually I just wanted to tell you that I'm praying for you today. I hope you aren't too disappointed, and that in time you will come to heal and see that the only way you can be assured of the security and safety of our country is by praying for the president, and trusting God to iron out all the details."
My response:
"Sherita Bobita, I did pray for Kerry, but not in the way you might expect. I prayed for God to shine His face upon Kerry and Edwards, to shine His truth upon His people, and shed the scales from the eyes of America. I do believe God heard my prayer too. I never prayed for Kerry to be president, as much as I wanted to. You see, I don't pray MY will be done, honey. I pray God's will be done. I do believe that God shines His face upon Kerry and Edwards, and I do believe His truth, and the truth about George Bush will be revealed. In fact, I am truly sorry I prayed that way. You see, I realize now that the only way America will know the truth behind the president's lies, is for him to have four more years to really screw up. I hope Sheri that when all is said and done, my son, your son, won't die so that my prayers can be answered. You forget something Sheri - I'm a Christian too...and honey, I'm a Democrat BECAUSE I'm a Christian, not in spite of it. Whatever ever happened to "the least of these?" What ever happened to loving our neighbor (not just our "brothers and sisters" but our NEIGHBORS?) You once told me that as a Christian, you were persecuted in this lifetime in the name of Jesus. Well Sheri, I finally understand, because today I feel persecuted in the name of Jesus... those like you who voted because of Christian values (albeit I don't believe Bush represents them) have persecuted us all in the name of Jesus. Welcome to the moral majority, Sheri. Prepare to have the scales from your eyes lifted. I'm praying for you today as well."
