"Values" = bigotry
It is irritating to hear news people and even people on DU talk about how the 2004 election was a referendum on "values," much more than we anticipated it would me. BULLSHIT. It was a referendum on the treatment of gays. And it proved that bigotry against gays is alive, well, and thriving, and will drive bigots to the polls to exercise their vote and shove their bigotry down the throats of others.

Bush's bigotry is evident in his fucking support of the constitutional amendment which would ban NOT JUST GAY MARRIAGES but also civil unions. His last minute, oh so quiet disowning of the "civil unions" ban was so cowardly and so disgustingly quiet. His is the party of the bigots. Now that it is no longer kosher to be the party of the racist bigots, it is just the party of the bigots against gays. Don't let anyone ever try to tell you it was about "values." if they do, call them on it: it was about being a bigot or being in the party of bigots.

This was a shocker to me. I naively figured enough people would vote about things like the war or the economy or social security, that the bigots would be kept in check. I overestimated people. They are still ultimately ruled by their low, disgusting prejudices.
