The Senate Mod Squad: What's Their Plan Of Action?
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 07:41 PM by SC_Dem
I'll define them as Snowe, Collins, Chafee, Specter, and maybe McCain and Gordon Smith.

With the Senate at 55-45 one has to wonder exactly how the Senate moderates will act. Specter has shown signs that he will be pretty unhappy if Bush tries to go full speed backwards. Four of the five are from states Gore won, and McCain still hates Bush's guts. One has to wonder if they have become a gang of five holding a collective gun to the administration's head. I would not be surprised to see Chafee walk across the aisle within the next three months as he appears to be at a wits end with this bunch.

1. I could really see Chaffee becoming a Dem
He has to, he just has to. And it's good that Specter will not allow a far-right agenda.

2. and he should be welcomed with open arms
although we technically lost four seats tuesday, its really only three because Isakson and Zell are a wash. Reeling in Chafee would make it only a two seat loss and would provide a much needed shot of energy.
