A fool-proof way to win every time
Let's nominate whatever candidate the Republicans nominate. We can't lose with that!

For every difference between the candidate we nominate and the Republican candidate, the greater the risk is someone might (gasp!) not vote for us.

And by nominating a different PERSON than the Republicans, we just end up taking votes away from the winner anyway. Let's not be a party of spoilers.

/sarcasm

---------

For those of you who are calling for abandoning our principles further, ie toward gay rights and abortion, to try and win, I suggest you look up the phrase "Pyrrhic Victory" in the dictionary. If we have to nominate a republican lite just to win, then winning is not worth it.

Fox News proves that people are manipulable, we just have to find a way to make our ideas appeal to Red America, rather than having no ideas or Republican ideas. It's clear that strategy doesnt work.

1. Good Luck
Dare to say this party needs to re-evaluate how it conducts elections and one's a defeatist or homophobe or giving up on principals.

Sheesh, we've got great defenders of our principals...folks like Shiela Jackson-Lee, Rahm Emanuel, Charlie Rangel and many more who are handcuffed in the House since they have even less of a minority than they did a week ago. We give these people power and we'll start getting back in the right direction. The only way they get power is to get more Democrats elected to the House and that means developing strategies and messages that win in the "RED" areas and create better coaltions where common goals of winning elections supercede special interests.

I can see this is falling on deaf ears...

2. i hear you complain
but I missed the solutions. We run conservatives in conservative districts, any thoughts on truely effective strategies and messages we're not trying?

Now instead of deaf ears, we get silent lips.

3. How About Building A Party First
Travel into many Red areas and stop in at a local Democratic party headquarters...that is if you can find one.

Parties have to be local and regional as much as national and address the issues those people have...and allow all to have a voice when it comes to the national level. This means not being "Conservative" (like you're using at a pejurative), but to find why people in these area vote "Conservative" and find Democratic messages that address those "values" or concerns and have candidates who can effectively address them. It's what Tip O'Neill called "All Politics Being Local".

How about running candidates who can win as Secretaries of State in Florida & Ohio so we have a big say on how those elections are conducted in 2008 and not have our voters disenfranchised or their votes vanish.

We need to put the cart before the horse. Yes, we have to grab a page from the GOOP playbook...the one that helped them build such a powerful operation. We need a strong alternative voice...and it has to come from the bottom up, since the top down style that is currently in place has lost elections almost non-stop since 1980.

Yes, there are silent lips right now from the many moderates and realists who aren't tied to one idealistic special interest or another...just the general principals of the party...who are getting driven away by the void in leadership and tolerance.

I wish you all luck.

4. we don't need to use any Repug playbooks
we need to write our own.

You say this, but you still got horse before cart. Of course we need to run for SoS in every state, and we do. The point is in getting them to win with a newpolitik. And all you can say is this new "way" should be wonderful and effective, well duh.

This means not being "Conservative" (like you're using at a pejurative),

I never said such a thing. You are twistier than a fruit fly in a salad bowl.

But I'll offer a solution. The tool we do not use effectively in reaching people, it is a wonderful tool that almost every one responds to if you do it right, regardless of party or ideology. And it can be summed up in one word:

Humor. Learn from Wellstone, the usefulness of politcal humor in campaigns has barely been scratched.

6. And Be Condescending As Well
Re-read what I said...STUDY, not copy. See what they've done effectively and build a better Democratic version. Sheesh, are people touch around here!

Are you saying that humor will win us house seats in 2006? Humor me further, I could use a laugh!

Cheers!

5. It's GOING TO HAPPEN, Darboy! Thanks for this post!
Right now, people are still a little numb from the recent shock. The activism right now is trending toward the voting machine fraud, but that will die down after the repukes finish stealing this election for real, or when John Kerry finally takes the helm. We'll know very soon which it will be....but I'm not counting on John Kerry being the one with his hand on the Bible at the inauguration.

What you're saying is true, of course. And we're going to need our own party, whether we overtake the existing one, or start a new one.. but the one we've got isn't doing the trick. We're supporting THEM, but they don't have a clue who we are or what we stand for. So, how could the red states possibly have a clue?

When OUR household (here at my house) starts trying to act dysfunctional, we declare: "OK! FAMILY MEETING!!" We all sit down TOGETHER at the kitchen table, and reaffirm the correct path. The Dem party needs to do that with ALL FAMILY MEMBERS present!!!

I think if you re-post this in a couple of weeks, we can start getting to work, and see what is the best way to tackle this problem. I think you've made a good point, and it's something that needs doing, when we're all back to normal (?).

But...that's just me!
