Do you want to kick the Elephant's ass in the future? Here's how we do it |

We need to articulate core values. If we articulate our values properly, we can take over this country from the unholy alliance that is currently in charge. These should be on every Democrat's talking points on every media appearance from now on:
1. Democrats are the party of the little guy, the underdog, the disadvantaged. We put working families first.
2. We are committed to diversity within our nation and unity as a nation. Christian values are entitled to respect, and homosexual Americans have a right to the same basic legal protections as everyone else.
3. We are the party of responsible and fairgovernment. In terms of domestic policy, that means that government has to live within its means, while keeping the burden on middle class families to a fair level.
4. We fucking hate terrorists. But, we're going to be smart and wise as well as tough. We need to continue the theme that John Kerry struck on this issue. The problem was that one election cycle was not enough to reverse the historic advantage the Republicans had built up in being the "tough guys" when it came to foreign policy.
5. No nation may execute people for being gay, treat women like property, and suppress freedom within its borders and still call itself a friend of the United States.
Edited to add:
6. We are the party of personal freedom. That means sticking by our support of our gay brothers and sisters, but it also likely means throwing guns out of the national debate. Measures like the assault weapons ban were merely cosmetic in any event.

Am I correct in believing that the DNC/DLC felt the need to shift this message because fewer people think they are the disadvantaged, in that they WANT to be "the man"?

3. Let's cater to homophobia why'll were at it. |
|
John Kerry catered to homophobes this election, but that didn't work. Surely we can try the same next time. It's bound to work sooner or later.

5. Where did I advocate catering to homophobia? Hatred and homophobia |
|
are not Christian values.
60% of this country favors at least civil unions for gays. Dems must not abandon gays--sticking by them and becoming the party of personal freedom is a winning issue, and morally the right thing to do.

4. There two things we need to do really... |
|
If this is a strategy session, here's my input.
They don't play fair. For us to sit back and say we still should when their strategy either kicks our ass or steals our votes is insane. Here's what we need to do.
1. Take the amazing fundraising machines that were the 527s and join them with rich Dems like George Soros. Get some investors. Then start buying up every local radio and TV station out there and buy a national news network. Clear Channel, Sinclair and FOX have corrupted a nation by spewing their Right Wing hate and lies. We need to buy up media outlets and get a liberal voice out. Not just in big cities with Air America, but in the heartland with Country Music stations or with your local news broadcast. Lean Left all the way.
We as the people can donate to these causes. Maybe even become stockholders in the liberal company (like the Green Bay Packers fans are) by donating. Instead of spending a fortune on campaigns we now have an equal forum throughout the nation for our ideas and the farmers or rural citizens aren't being told from only one source about how Liberals are evil and Conservatives are saintly.
2. Keep the movement strong about changing the voting systems across America. Demand non-partisan involvement with future voting machines and demand a paper trail. At this point, I still think the 2004 election is in play so at the very worst case scenario we can use this as a way to reform things before Rove and his cronies find a way to make this a Saddam 99% at election time nation.
These two things are more key than running solid candidates ever because they can spin anything their way and steal it thereafter no matter who we have on our side. I am drawn to the conclusion that with the Right Wing Media Army Jesus Christ could have been the Dem nominee and they would have spun him as evil.
We need to equalize the media. Every radio station now has right wing pundits on it... Listen to your station's morning show even on rock stations. 100% Right Wingers.
Without the media equally in our pocket, we can't win.

6. I agree that we have to have a better method of getting our message out. |
|
I do think that we have to have a clear vision and values to distribute, though. It's become too difficult to say what it means to be a Democrat without referring to Republicans and Bush.

7. Get rid of the machines. |
|
Your "secret ballot" was stolen and all those who expected the privacy of the voting booth were disenfranchised.
