Maybe it's time for the Democratic Party's "Barry Goldwater Moment".
The Republicans put up an ideologically pure conservative candidate who went down in flames.

But in the seeds of that defeat were born the "Reagan Revolution" and the great reality of Bushco that we know in America today.

Maybe, like Moses, we must wander the desert. Hopefully not for 40 years.

Maybe the next Dem presidential candidate has to be an unequivocal champion of the poor. Unequivocal defender of abortion rights. Unequivocally opposed to discrimination against gays. Unequivocally against immoral adventures in foreign lands.

Maybe such a candidate would be demonized by FOX and CNN and Rush like no other. And would lose by 60/40.

And maybe then we could begin wandering the desert until America decides it has had enough. It would be necessary to build some non party kinds of infrastructure too, in the way that the Repubs have created the bogus "think tanks", right wing hate radio etc. Perhaps the Web could figure prominently in this.

I don't blame Kerry. I think him a fine candidate and man who ran a good campaign.

But America needs to know that they are making a choice. Oh, they made a choice in this election. A terrible choice. But it's still possible for many to not understand in the starkest way the choice they made.

Voting and elections accountability must addressed first before any of this can even begin to be relevant, though...
