1. Wes Clark said the "stop-losses" are now for the rest of their lives.
I didn't really understand this issue until I hear Wes talk about it in a town-hall meeting just before the election. Apparently, they are allowed to get out (go of active duty) but are "on-call" (meaning they can be recalled) for a specified period of time. He didn't talk like this was an unusual or new practice. But, what IS new is that the specified time is now UNTIL DEATH DO US PART.

10. A recruiter will lie like a rug.
A friend of mine spent two years in Korea after his recruiter guaranteed no overseas duty.

14. Tried to tell the kid across the street just that
I said recruiters LIE. He said the recruiter promised him he wouldn't ever leave the US. The kid and his family are Dem's and they HATE W. and he still joined up because of what the recruiter promised and he figured it would be a good way to get a good start towards his goals of getting an education/trade, buy a house, etc....... He also said that because he has scoliosis that automatically exempted him from any combat duty (the recruiter PROMISED me:eyes: ). Oh I told him about DUer Mari's son and that his back problems made no difference to the military.

I did my damnedest to talk him out of signing up. I said, at least let's see how the election turns out first ()
but he said he was aware of most of the lies and bullshit and signed up anyway.

3. This Story WAS Out There...
Also there was an article discussing a "special needs draft" that could start early next year, it's just being redressed with some spiffy Military name that doesn't say what it really is.

People were told there would need an additional 20-25,000 troops before January and they're not volunteering or coming from our "willing partners".

If there's any justice left in this world, may the first place the recruiters look is the Young Repugnicans office.

5. What all those blood thirsty fauxndies aren't volunteering ???

I find that hard to believe. After all, they believe in this war. And Bush's "victory" was based on support of his war against "terrorism".

Surely all those Bush voters should be standing in line to enlist!!!!

8. Computer Geeks And All Things Medical
This was a report on NPR some months back...the plan was to try to "convince" students in their final years of school or those who have just gotten out (no mention on how long of a window) that could be called for "Emergency Service"...just like how your local police department could call in on private citizens for help in natural disasters. I'm not sure how this mechanism works, but the report alluded that this was all set and legal and would be done quietly...not consentrating on one area or field, but scattering the "needs". It sounded Orwellian as all hell.

Recently, I read a letter from a young man who was faced with fighting an Inperialistic War far from home in a country where he was a minority. The year was 1906, the man was my grandfather. I never met the man, but I sure wonder what he would be thinking at this time...

If he voted for Bush, I hope he loses. It would serve him right.

11. Exactly. That's why I didn't pass out the flyer posted here
about an imminent Draft. I re read it and looked into the whole thing. Then in Bush's speech he said something that made me think a bit more on the issue.

He mentioned the militaries "new weapons" and "speicalized" forces. Okay, I thought. It seems likely that he wouldn't just draft everyone willy nilly because THERE'S NO PROFIT IN THAT. Defense spending goes up, investors get rich, the cost of paying a horde of soldiers has NO RETURN ON THEIR INVESTMENT; feasibly the gov would have to support the troops for the rest of their life, not exactly a winning combo for the WEALTH GATHERING, cheapskate Neo Fascists.

Now, I read this thread on "recycling" soldiers FOREVER with a teensy weensy kinda sorta "draft thing" using people with "specialized" skills. Hmmmmmm

17. Watch * 's language.
I swear KKKarl carefully picks and chooses *'s words for him.
I know * said he didn't PLAN on reinstating the draft.
Does anyone know if he ever said he WILL NOT reinstate it PERIOD? Because the word 'plan', hey, it's all semantics.

I'm just waiting for the day that he does reinstate the draft.
And when the cry goes up, he's going to come out and say "well, I said I didn't PLAN on it. I never said I wasn't going to do it at all." :puke:

12. Hmmm
that is awfully suspicious of the military, especially considering the fact that he is not part of the IRR.

I told Mr. Moonbeam about this--he was in the first Gulf War and served a total of 11 1/2 yrs active duty and got out in 96. His quote: "if they want me, they'd have to find me first."

I can't believe this shit. I mean I do believe it, but it's farging ridiculous.
