Social Security is a "moral" issue.... |
|
First of all, everybody is not going to "win" in the stock market. The Republicans are playing a cruel hoax on the young people of this country. Put your money in the stock market. Give a big percentage to the brokers to handle it for you. And, in the long run, you will have more money with which you will retire. Maybe?
Social Security was created because when we get older, we are not as able to take care of ourselves as when we were younger. It is an "insurance" program. It was created to offer the elderly some degree of independence and self-sufficiency when they got old. They would not have to depend on their children or charity in order to stay warm or have a roof over their heads.
But now, George Bush and the Repubs want to "privatize" it. Take 13 or 14% of the total and donate it to stock brokers on Wall St. And they will buy a Big rock Candy Mountain for you so you can lick on it when you get older. But what happens if you lose the money? Would you expect the government to guarantee it?
It is an immoral idea suggest that the "market" will give everyone a better life. It's simply not going to happen.
