1. Interesting...but beware of IQ tests-- they're quite biased...
...in favor of those who made the tests-- typically white males.

All standardized tests are skewed one way or another-- which is one of the main reasons I don't believe in them as a sole measure of intelligence or school achievement. It's also the same reason why most universities don't base admissions solely on SAT/ACT scores.

2. I agree.
Just slinging a little mud cause I'm angry. No offense to our red state brothers and sisters.

14. Because we're smarter than they are?
You don't have to be rich to be smart. Bush proved you can be filthy rich and dumb.

5. I think a similar graph came out after the last election.
It was debunked.

Not that people who vote for Bush aren't dumb, it's just that this study was never done.

Also I can't believe Connecticut has a higher IQ than New York!

Here's a different list based on IQ calulated fron ACT and SAT scores:

IQ Averages by State
***************************************
104 New Hampshire

103 Oregon, Massachusetts, Wisconsin

102 Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Vermont, Washington

101 Alaska, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Utah, Wyoming

100 Arizona, California, Idaho, Maine, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia

99 Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana

98 Florida, Arkansas

97 Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas

96 New Mexico

95 District of Columbia

94 Mississippi, South Carolina
***************************************

I believe the graph in the original post was debunked some time ago, its been around the Internet since at least Gore v Bush.

Here's the source for this IQ study:

10. BS - IQ numbers based on hoax report, too much variance
There's no way IQs would vary by 30 points (2 standard deviations) between states. State populations just aren't that different.

17. Sigh
> State populations just aren't that different.

Come spend some time with me here in GA, and you'll change your mind! It probably wouldn't take you five minutes. The idea that the average IQ here is as high as 92 is absurd. That means that if you take 100 people from New Jersey, 99 people out of 100 (10^2) would be smarter than the average person here. I think it's greater than that.
