The Republican Scheme for Florida in 2006: Gay Marriage Ban on Ballot
Katherine Harris will probably challenge Bill Nelson for the Senate.

Not sure about the governor race, but according to this article, the fundies are prepping to put gay marriage on the ballot, in no doubt to boost republican turnout in 2006.

1. Like I said-----
They are going to keep beating us over the head with this. It's going to pass anyway. The Dems in FL have no choice but to endorse it. Clinton was right.

6. It might not "get" Dems votes, but it will prevent them from losing
moderate middle America votes. We know these state bans pass with about 75% of the vote. If the Dems say nothing, voters will assume they are against it. Endorsing the ban will also blunt the GOP's effort to get out the fundi vote. The FL GOP would be able to use Dem opposition to the ban to stir up the fundis, which will hurt the Dem candidates running in '06.

7. The Michigan Dem Party was against their state's anti-gay ammendment...

Kerry won MI. MI state dems gained seats in their senate...

And nationwide, Kerry won moderates and independents (Gore lost independents).

Gays didn't cost the election. The overall 'moral issues' ("bush is a good christian man") and terror issue did.

also...

"Endorsing the ban will also blunt the GOP's effort to get out the fundi vote."

yeah right. GOP is stumping in their churches. they'll comeout in droves

10. That's Michigan. And Michigan was closer than it should have been for
Kerry. I see the ban passed in Michigan with 59% of the vote.

I also note that "Parental Notification" passed in FL with 65% of the vote.

3. No, they have to point out that it's an attempt to distract voters
from issues that directly affect them.

They point to two men holding hands while the GOP plutocrats get ready to fuck the voters.

14. If we allow the Repugs to define the issues and debate, we lose.
It's that simple. Letting these people think that this is a legitimate issue was where the debate was lost.

4. Really?
Well this little plan won't work will it? Simply because the FMA will be re-introduced soon. Then that will pass, and guess what that means? An end to states rights! So who gives a shit what they are planning for '06 in Florida, or your feelings of abandoning queers for the sake of a win.

5. Don't say shit about it
Why do democrats 'have to' endorse it?

And if Florida has the initiative process, why can't the Florida Dems put an anti-BBV initiative ont he ballot?

9. one tactic: vote it up in the legislature, then tie it up the courts!
If we wanna win, we might have to be sneaky bastards.
