This isn't "civil disobediance"...it's criminal stupidity. |

Someone please tell me how this helped. http://www.wral.com/news/3910173/detail.htmlSome Call Vandalism At GOP Headquarters Civil Disobedience Some Call For 'Raleigh Three' To Be Released From Jail
POSTED: 10:21 am EST November 11, 2004 UPDATED: 10:58 am EST November 11, 2004
RALEIGH, N.C. -- When vandals trashed and attempted to set fire to the state Republican Party Headquarters, Raleigh police called it a crime, but some argue it was a case of civil disobedience.
Raleigh police said an apparent mob of vandals attacked the state GOP headquarters on Hillsborough Street Friday night with the intent to burn down the building.
"Law enforcement agencies nationwide recognize the seriousness of movements such as this. We prepared our officers. We train continuously," said Capt. Ken Mathias, of the Raleigh Police Department.
Police arrested and charged Melissa Brown, David Hensley, and Vanessa Zuloaga with felony vandalism. Now, various online anarchist supporters consider them misunderstood. They are now referred to as the "Raleigh 3," and there are calls to help post bond for them.

5. Then why was this incident originally |
|
called yet another Rovian tactic, by so many on the message boards? Folks spoke against it then, but not now?
If the situation were reversed, would you still see no problem with it? A bunch of radical fundies vandalizing abortion clinics? They could use the same arguement..."pushing against the machine of death", to use what would most likely be their words.
It's a crime no matter how one spins it.

In a cocoon environment such as this, our side is never wrong and when we do act badly its because the freepers made us do it.
You'll find the same at freerepublic just in reverse.
People tend to forget that no matter which side of the aisle one resides on people are human. And humans can do some dumbass shit.

13. Thanks for the explanation |

It makes sense, although the cognitive dissonance (from both sides) can be a little hard to take.

7. Weather-type bombings are inevitable now |
|
It's not "our side's" fault. Authoritarian regimes breed domestic terrorism. When people feel bullied they push back. Vandalism is the beginning, it will get worse. REMEMBER WE THE DEMOCRATS WERE THE ONES WHO TRIED TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING. WE ARE NOT THE PERPETRATORS.

8. Sure when people excuse poor behavior..... |
|
Of course there will always be nutjobs. But when you say "well that's what happens when you have a an authoritative regime" you are justifying it.
Just like the militia types(McVeigh, those Republic of Texs guys) that decided their actions were justified by the the government's actions. Further excused by hate radio, they declared war on the fed gov't.
It is indeed our sides fault when we poo-poo idiocy. Just like its the right's fault when their nut jobs take their rhetoric to heart.

This is just part of the reaping of the whirlwind. A very small part. I won't play into Republican hands by acting like it has anything to do with me.
ON EDIT: Read Gore Vidal on McVeigh.

10. I always thought civil disobedience was sit ins, blocking access, etc. |
|
You know, "civil".
This was pure vandalism and a criminal act.
I don't care if "they were pushed to do it". If that's the case they can at least still owe up to the criminality of it none the less and suffer their punishment like grown ups without trying to shove responsibility onto someone else.

12. This is actually terrorism |
|
I see this as terrorism. In the very same way ol' (glad he's dead) Timmy McVeigh is a terrorist. Or white supremacists, or Black Panthers, or Islamic conservatives, or ......... you get the idea.
